I found you! - A Wings of Fire crack oneshot

Summary:

What if, instead of retaking her throne and getting killed. Scarlet decided she was going to "take care of" Beryl first and it ultimately backfires. How did she find Beryl and the island? We're just gonna say that Chameleon enchanted her a tracker of some sort.

Contains some major spoilers!

I wrote this immediately after reading book 16 in one sitting, at which point it was 1am and then I stayed up until 2am writing this real quick. Also the ending of book 16 may have fried my brain a bit trying to figure out what in the three moons just happened, so this fic might be a bit weird.

Work Text:

Oh no! Thought Umber. Scarlet’s found us!

Beryl and Scarlet were staring daggers at each other from opposite sides of the border. Snakeroot twitched as he stood slightly behind Beryl, but to the left a bit. Seemingly unsure if he’d jump into the fight if Scarlet lunged.

“I finally found you Beryl! It’s been so long! How have you been?” Scarlet asked mockingly.

“Cut the formalities Scarlet.” Beryl snapped. “I know you’re just here to try to kill me.”

Scarlet gasped, obviously faking shock and pretending to look hurt.

“Now, now, of course not! What’s the fun in that? I have a much more thrilling death in mind for you!”

“So you’re here to mock me?” Beryl snarled.

Quite a crowd was gathering behind Umber and Sora as they all watched the scene unfold. Scarlet was alone, she had no army, so what does she have that she could possibly use against them?

“Yes I have in fact!”

Scarlet said cheerfully as she began to saunter over to the border, unaware of what will happen when she steps over the line.

Should I warn her? Umber asked himself. I really don’t want to be stuck with her of all dragons and this wouldn’t be good for Sora. He looked over his shoulder at the trembling dragon tucked under his wing. But, would Scarlet even listen?

His chance had passed, now it was too late and Scarlet stepped fully over the line. Umber backed up, pushing Sora along with him. Trying to back away, but the push of the crowd of carious dragons kept them from going anywhere.

Beryl smirked.

“What are you smiling about?” Scarlet asked coldly, having dropped her act.

“I know something you don’t.” Beryl taunted.

Umber knew it too, but now it was too late for Scarlet. She was stuck, surrounded by enemies and she didn’t even realize that there’s no where to go. Well she was about to learn soon enough what mess she had gotten herself into.

“Guards!” Beryl called over her shoulder and pointed at Scarlet. “Seize her!”

Scarlet laughed. “You’ll never take me alive!”

She then turned around, opened her wings and in one wing beat, instantly slammed into the invisible barrier. There was a loud zapping sound before Scarlet crumbled over, legs twitching as she lay on the ground. Looking like a crushed bug.

There was a chorus of laughter from the crowd and admittedly Umber even snorted a little, trying to stifle his own giggles.

Beryl leaned over the twitching Scarlet.

“Nowhere to run, you’re stuck here with us!” She said mockingly.

Scarlet mumbled something about stupid animus magic as she slowly rolled over, groaning in pain.

“I’m not stuck here with you, you’re stuck here with me!”

Scarlet yelled and lunged at Beryl with a surprising amount of strength. Knocking the other dragon over and sending them both into a barrel roll as they began to fight each other. Everyone yelped and screamed as they jumped out of the way, trying to avoid getting stuck between the two.

Umber dragged Sora out of the way, she seemed to have frozen in a stunned state. He then turned to king Snakeroot once they were away the carnage.

“What do we do your majesty?”

He asked desperately.

The king turned to him slowly. His eyes seemed clear, but still perplexed. Like he had just woken up from a very confusing dream. And in a rare moment of lucidity, he spoke clearly.

“I’m not dealing with this.”

He then turned on his heel and took off into the sky back to the castle. Leaving Umber even more perplexed. Mulberry crossed the border and landed beside Umber, having returned from his expedition.

“Uh- what’s going on?”

He asked, watching as Beryl and Scarlet tussled and how other dragons were tripping over each other while trying to get out of the way.

Umber shrugged.

“Your mother is just reuniting with an old friend.”

“I see…”

Mulberry blinked in confusion as the three watched the scene unfold. Everyone was too busy dodging the two fighting dragons to notice he had returned.

“Uh-“ Umber broke the silence. “Wanna go get some ice cream?”

“Sure,” Mulberry lifted back into the sky. “Let’s go out of here!”

And the three went to go get ice cream while Scarlet and Beryl fought until they got exhausted. And I am going to bed because it’s 2:40am and I just ruined my sleep schedule by reading the hybrid prince in one sitting and then writing this real quick. Imma go let everything process now because my mind feels fried trying to wrap my head around everything that happened in this book. Ok good night.
