Logbook of the Lost Player

Summary:

When one looks back on their first life, they remember the little things.

The warmth of summer afternoons, the sound of familiar voices and the places they once called home. But when Aira looked back, there wasn’t much left to remember. Her childhood had been spent growing up too quickly and by the time she was old enough to understand what life was supposed to feel like, she had already forgotten how to live it.

Then she died and somehow, fate gave her another chance, a second life.

A strange world she had only ever heard about through her late brother’s ramblings, filled with pirates, impossible islands, monsters, Devil Fruits and a boy who wanted nothing more than to be free. She didn’t know the story and she didn’t know what waited beyond the horizon. She only knew the name of the world her brother had loved so much.

She never expected to become part of it and she certainly never expected a certain rubber idiot to look at her one day and simply decide she belonged on his crew.

Maybe she was never meant to be a spectator.

( LOGBOOK OF THE LOST PLAYER  )
the story of a girl who was given a second chance

THERE ARE COUNTLESS WAYS FOR A LIFE TO BEGIN. With a first breath, with a cry, with a pair of hands reaching for someone else's or with a name spoken for the very first time. And there are just as many ways for a life to end. A heartbeat stopping, a voice falling silent, or perhaps, a road disappearing beneath passing headlights. Sometimes, there is nothing poetic about death because sometimes, it is simply sudden. And sometimes, when the story should have ended there, something reaches though the darkness and turns a page.

Aira had never expected to be given another one. She had already made peace with the life she had lived. It hadn't been extraordinary, there had been no grand adventure waiting for her beyond the next morning, no impossible dream burning brightly enough to pull her forward. She had simply kept moving because that was what people did. Wake up, go to school, go to work, come home and repeat. She had loved people and she had lost people. And somewhere between the two, she had learned that surviving and living were not necessarily the same thing.

Then she died and woke up somewhere that should not have existed, a world of endless blue horizons and impossible creatures, where islands could hide entire kingdoms and the sea belonged to those reckless enough to challenge it. A world she had heard about before, not because she had personally known it but because someone she loved had. Her brother had talked about it constantly, about pirates, about adventures, about people who chased impossible dreams as though the world itself had no right to tell the, they couldn't. Stories she hadn't paid nearly enough attention to at the time. She never imagined that one day she would wake up inside that world itself and she certainly never imagined that the first person to drag her into its madness would be a boy with a straw hat and a smile far too big for his face. A boy who would look at the lonely girl standing at the edge of his adventure and somehow deiced that she shouldn't be standing there alone, no matter what awful thing she might have done.

The sea had strange ways of bringing people together. Sometimes it carries strangers to the same shore, sometimes it tears people apart and sometimes it takes a person who thought they had nothing left to lose and gives them everything.

Aira doesn't know what awaits her beyond the horizon. She doesn't know what kind of person she will become, she doesn't know how far the sea will take her and she doesn't even know what she wants from this second life. But perhaps that is the point. Because for the first time in her life, tomorrow isn't something she has to endure, it is something that she gets to discover.

Beccasse this time, she isn't watching someone else's story...

this time, she is living her own.
