Sudden proposal

Summary:

Lately, Tanjirou has been spending a lot of time with Giyuu. He actually enjoys it a lot, but part of him wonders why the water hashira keeps looking for him in the butterfly estate; he always thought he was kinda shy and enjoyed the moments of solitude more than anything.

Although he's definitely not going to complain about it. It's nice to spend time with him; Giyuu doesn't talk much, but he enjoys listening to Tanjirou happily talking about his family.

Work Text:

Lately, Tanjirou has been spending a lot of time with Giyuu. He actually enjoys it a lot, but part of him wonders why the water hashira keeps looking for him in the butterfly estate; he always thought he was kinda shy and enjoyed the moments of solitude more than anything.

Although he's definitely not going to complain about it. It's nice to spend time with him; Giyuu doesn't talk much, but he enjoys listening to Tanjirou happily talking about his family.

Sometimes, they train together, and the Pillar makes sure to be particularly gentle whenever Tanjirou comes back with scratches from one of his missions.

Others, they just walk around the village and Tanjirou ends up with a new precious hairpin, yukata or expensive food because the water hashira refuses to leave the place without buying something for him.

Ubuyashiki sends Giyuu on a long mission, that only lasts a month because the Pillar manages to solve everything quickly; he's desperate to see Tanjirou and the redhead has realized he also misses him a lot.

He not only comes back with a gift for Tanjirou, but for Nezuko as well. And then, after a few weeks, Giyuu comes to the butterfly estate looking for both Kamado siblings.

The water hashira kneels in front of them, which makes Tanjirou feel flustered immediately, but Nezuko nods like she was already expecting that to happen. Her human intelligence has developed fast this past months and even though she can't talk that much, she understands everything perfectly.

"I am a Pillar and not only can offer your brother a house, and everything he wants, I can also protect him."

Tanjirou blushes to the tip of his ears because that sounds something really close to a proposal.

"Do I have your approval to ask his hand in marriage?"

The blush spreads down his cheeks and Tanjirou gasps as his heart seems to want to get out of his chest. Is... Giyuu in love with him?

Nezuko nods, but makes a gesture with her hands that looks kinda threatening and the redhead immediately understands that she's trying to tell the hashira she will kill him if he ever hurts Tanjirou.

"She doesn't actually mean-"

"I'd gladly let you do that if that ever happened."

Finally, Giyuu smiles lovingly at Tanjirou, who is still very much flustered.

"I love you, Tanjirou. I have for a while... and even though part of me still thinks I don't deserve someone like you, the other insists I should try. I promise I'll work hard to be worthy of you."

"You already are, Giyuu-san!" Tanjirou blurts out like he can't stop himself. He's kinda offended on the water hashira's behalf.

"Does that mean I have a chance?"

"Of course you do," Tanjirou assures him, getting startled and even more flustered when Giyuu rushes in front of him and takes both hands in his.

"Will you marry me, Tanjirou?" The Pillar mumbles, not even bothering to go through the courting process.

The redhead is sure if he asks him to court him first Giyuu will gladly agree, but Tanjirou doesn't want that either.

"I'd love to."

Nezuko leaves then to allow them some privacy, although it seems like the hashira doesn't care or he's quite desperate because he starts kissing Tanjirou before his sister leaves the room completely.

Although she promises to come back soon. She takes her chaperone duties very seriously.
