Green eyed monster

Summary:

What if: the reason Park was so snippy with Dennis is because he notices that Dennis has a crush on a certain ED attending.

And he’s gonna do his damnest to ruin that little crush.

Work Text:

“You’re staring.”

A gruff tone jolts Dennis’s gaze away from where Robby is across the room. His whips his head to the side, seeing none other than Park the Shark glowering at him.

“Uh, what- no, no I’m not.” He stammers as his cheeks heat.

Park simply arches an unimpressed eyebrow.

Then Dennis breaks.

“Ok, yeah, so what if I was?” Dennis bristles, trying to calm his heart rate at being caught. “A man can enjoy a good view.”

“What?” Park gives a dry, unbelieving scoff. “You like him or something?”

Dennis shrugs. “I’m not blind.”

Park turns to lean his back on the desk next to Dennis, his body facing away from Robby. “Maybe not blind, but delusional.”

Irritation spikes in Dennis, he’s been nothing but kind and cordial to Park and all he gets are asshole comments back. “What are you even doing here? Don’t you have some fancy surgeon stuff to be doing?” He snaps.

Park slides him an amused look, like he’s been waiting for Dennis to crack.

And Dennis silently curses himself, one for giving into the temptation to be rude and two, for liking that smug look he gave him. Park had given him the barest lift of the corner of his lips, a hint of a smile. And it was enough to make Dennis’s heart race.

He shakes his head and returns his attention to Robby, his actual crush. The guy he likes. Park shouldn’t be the one to make him act like this. It’s Robby, it’s always been Robby… right?

“Got a consult. One of your baby students damn near squeaked when I told them to show me the X-ray pictures of an arm.” Park turns to face him, his elbow sliding onto the counter. “I’m not that scary, am I?”

Park’s smirk tells Dennis that he knows exactly how he comes across, and that Park loves it.

So he rolls his eyes. “You’re an asshole too.”

Park tsks. “Ah, that’s every surgeon. Don’t you know that by now?”

Dennis tilts his head and hums. He’s got a point there.

“Your man over there, though, he’s an asshole too.” Park remarks casually, like he’s talking about the weather and didn’t nearly turn his world upside down.

“What?” Dennis shakes his head, glaring at him. “Robby’s not like that.”

Park shrugs. “Sure he is, he’s just an asshole who pretends to be nice to everyone. Difference between him and me? I don’t pretend.”

Dennis stammers, unable to form words and something like pity flashes on Park’s face.

“C’mon, don’t tell me you haven’t noticed the shit he says to the others? The mean backhanded comments and belittling the women he works with?” Park nods his head over to the man in question. “Word is that he made one of the residents feel less than simply because she had a panic attack. You don’t see it because you’re in the little boys club with him.”

Dennis blinks and gulps. If that was true… if Robby had yelled at one of his employees for having a panic attack when he himself had one a few months prior. One where Dennis treated him with nothing but kindness and respect. It leaves a bad taste in his mouth, knowing that Robby has firsthand experience of panic attacks and chose to be cruel to someone who was experiencing one.

It makes him like Robby a little less.

“I didn’t- I didn’t know.” Dennis manages.

Park shrugs. “Now you do. You still like him?”

Dennis chews his lips. “I don’t know. Maybe he’s just having a bad day.”

Park laughs, but it’s not a humorous one. It’s one with the tone of oh wait til I tell you this. “He’s always been like that. He’s a damn good doctor, though. It’s the only reason he gets away with shit like that.”

Dennis shakes his head and squints at the other man. “Why are you telling me this? What’s the point of this.”

Park eyes him for a few seconds. “I dunno,” He says eventually, still confident as ever. “Saw you gazing at him like a love sick fool and thought I’d break the news to you.” Then he leans in. “There’s other sharks in the pool, you know.”

The words aren’t lost on him. Dennis blinks once, then twice. Then twice again. “What?” He says dumbly.

Park shakes his head with a smirk. “Robby’s a lost cause for anything romantic. I’ve never seen the guy look twice at someone. But…” Park’s eyes trail down and up Dennis’s body. Dennis blushes. “Well, you catch my drift.”

“Are you- are you hitting on me?” Dennis is proud that he didn’t squeak.

Park doesn’t bat an eye. “Is it working?”

“Maybe.” Damnit, he squeaked.

Park smirks. “FYI,” He says as he takes a step back. “I’m not an asshole to my partners.”

“Oh.” Dennis breathes out.

“Let me know your thoughts on going out tonight, I’ll be back later.”

Park doesn’t smirk or wave as he leaves. But his eyes do linger on Dennis for a second longer than appropriate.

And Dennis looks back at Robby, who’s chatting with Dana. Robby catches his eye and waves Dennis over, grabbing a clipboard.

And Dennis thinks he’s screwed.
