Chapter Text
Hermione was in the common room of Gryffindor tower reading over her new history of magic book. Her and Ginny had come back to Hogwarts for their seventh year but Harry and Ron had decided to take Kingsley up on his offer to become Aurors instead.
Classes was to begin the next day and Hermione was excited to start. Now that Voldemort had been defeated and the death eaters being rounded up, Hermione was sure it was going to be a peaceful year.
As it was, Hermione was about to find out it wasn't going to be the peaceful year she anticipated. She had just picked up her ancient runes book when McGonagall came in. The new headmistress shook her head as she smiled. "Excited are we?" She asked moving to sit across from Hermione, placing a box next to her.
"Yes Professor" Hermione replied. "Is everything alright?"
McGonagall nodded. "Yes. But I need you to come with me."
Once they were secluded away from prying eyes, McGonagall handed Hermione the box she had been carrying. When Hermione opened it she gasped seeing the time turner. "Professor, why are you giving me a time turner?"
"Kingsley brought it to me. He created this so we could go back in time to when the first war was happening. To change the outcome."
"But isn't messing with time a huge crime?"
"Yes, but since this is from the new minister that is being overlooked. Now, this time turner has already been programmed to go back into the past to when James, Lily and Harry was hiding in Godric's hollow, the day before Harry turns one years old. It is your job to tell them what happens and about Pettigrew, but you should also know that once you're there, this timeline will no longer exist."
"I'm not coming back am I?" She asked.
"No miss Granger, you're not. I know this is a lot to take in, but Kingsley felt that you was the most likely person to do this mission. Harry, for obvious reasons wanted to go, but that wouldn't work since he is already there. Ron couldn't go either."
"But I can?" Why?"
"Because you're muggleborn and didn't have any knowledge of the wizard world till your Hogwarts letter arrived. So even though you are already there, you won't see yourself."
"That makes sense. So I'm going back to change everything?"
"Yes. Harry knows and when Kingsley brought me this, he also brought me Harry's message to give to his parents. He also wrote out what happy to him when he lived with the Dursley's before going to Hogwarts. Anyways, once you're there, you will tell James, Lily, Sirius and Remus everything. I also suggest that you bring Dumbledore and myself and maybe Professor Flitwick in."
"Ok. I'll go. But when?"
"As soon as you're ready. Hermione, please know we appreciate this. You won't be able to save everyone but you can save many lives. Also, don't be afraid to love and be loved." Hermione frowned but McGonagall gave her a knowing look before turning to leave. As she reached the door, she looked back. "Once you put the time turner on, it will transport you to Godric's hollow." With that being said, McGonagall left leaving a confused Hermione behind her. She then hurried and packed a bag deciding not to leave a note for Ginny since McGonagall had said once she leaves, this time line would change. Once she was ready, she looked around her room one last time before placing the time turner around her neck and in a flash of light, Hermione Granger disappeared.
Hermione landed outside the Potter's house in Godric's Hollow. She had been here with Harry when they had come here back in December. It was a beautiful house, not like the ruin that she had seen before.
As she walked up the path to the house she couldn't help but think how she was going to explain everything, especially with her appearing at their house while they were under the fidilus charm.
She knocked on the door and hoped that there wouldn't be any problems. "Can you get that Padfoot" a man yelled.
Hermione gasped as she heard footsteps approach the door and just had time to school her features when a young Sirius Black opened the door. "Well hello there" Sirius said with an easy smile. "Who might you be pretty bird?"
Hermione's mouth opened and closed several times before she shook her head to clear the cobwebs. "I'm Hermione Granger. Are the Potters home?"
Just then James came to the door and saw Hermione and Sirius looking at each other. "Is everything alright?" James asked.
"You're James Potter right?" Hermione asked.
James swallowed and reached for his wand but Hermione shook her head. "No. I'm not here to hurt you. I can explain if you'll let me."
"Roll up your sleeve" James said.
Hermione nodded and reached down rolling up the sleeve on her right arm. Sirius and James gasped when they saw the words carved on her forearm. "Well, she isn't a death eater" Sirius' said.
"Come in" James said and once inside he motioned for Sirius to take their guest into the living room as he went to get Lily. When Sirius and Hermione entered the room, she saw Remus was there, sitting on the floor playing with the baby. Hermione smiled as she looked at baby Harry and she had to stop herself from running over and hugging the small child. Remus looked up and raised a brow at Sirius but he shrugged. Just then Lily and James walked in and James introduced Lily to Hermione. Lily looked worried but Hermione smiled. "It's alright. I'm here to help you all. I'm also here to save you." With that she reached under her shirt and produced the time turner. "I am from the future."
The three mauraders and Lily gasped in shock. "From the future" Lily asked.
"Yes. 17 years to be exact. I was just getting ready to start my seventh year at Hogwarts when McGonagall sent me here."
"So that means you're a Gryffindor" Remus said with a grin.
"I don't know how you came up with that idea, Remus, but yes, I am." At the shocked look on everyones faces, Hermione continued. "Yes. I know who you all are, three I know very well."
"They are?"Lily asked.
"Remus, Sirius and Harry. I am best friends with Harry Potter from where I came from. Like I said I will explain everything but can you first call Dumbledore, McGonagall and Flitwick here?"
Lily nodded and left the room and within twenty minutes the three professors was there. "I will start with what I know then read Harry's notes" she said. "Please hold all questions till I am finished, and I am talking to you, Sirius."
James and Remus laughed and even the professors smiled.
Hermione then took a deep breath preparing to tell everyone why she had come and what had happened.
