   Summary

   Sam’s scheming, and slow trudging forward, were interrupted by the stilling of the body in front of her, by a gloved hand whipping out to the side, floating ever so slightly back towards Sam, if she let herself imagine it.

   “I thought I saw a snake.” The accented voice came clipped as the exposed fingers twitched, that specimen of a body strung taut, reflexes on the brink.

   Sam sighed, relieved, reaching up to run a hand all over and through her hair, trying to air it out as much as possible in this sauna of a climate. The thing about this tour guide was that she just barely edged on the side of overprotective – extra cautious, doubling back on her own scouting if she sensed a lick of precarity along the path she forged for them. Although grating at times, it did elicit a comforting sense of safety – the firmest, almost arousing trust that she was in good hands. Metaphorically speaking, of course – well, as of now, that was. Maybe later she’d test how good, how strong, how possessive –
