"It's a long way down..." Basil whispers, fighting off the trembling. Is it fear, or the cold? The gowns they're wearing flutter in the cold breeze. "...are... are you sure you want to jump...?"
Sunny stands quietly, staring at the ground way down below. It really is a long way down from here. The people and the traffic dotting the city streets are so small, like ants. "I don't know... I'm scared..."
The other boy's lips straighten into a line. He's very conscious of how hard Sunny's hand is gripping his. He squeezes back, offering some comfort despite their situation.
"...I... I do."
It's only right, isn't it? After everything they've done, this is for the best. He'll never have another chance to say it. "I love you so much, Sunny. I'm sorry."
The smaller teen smiles weakly, his eye watering. "What for?"
They close their eyes, leaning forwards, over the break in the fence, and there is no floor to catch them. Not yet.
The wind rushes chaotically past them, or maybe the other way around. But their hands remain tightly intertwined.
They'll be there soon.
