Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - On My Way

Chapter Text

Driving down the semi-open road on your motorbike with your friend right behind you, you allowed yourself to enjoy this moment of peace before arriving at Fort Dimitrescu. You’re not entirely sure why your father decided you would be the best choice to be an emissary, he hadn’t thought you capable before, so why start now? Your mind kept running all the different possibilities. Perhaps he just wanted you gone, to remove the final reminder of his dead wife? Perhaps he was finally coming around to you being useful to your community? Perhaps he was just getting tired of your complaining about not being able to help and just threw you into this task?

You looked to the left, a thick cloud approaching. You slowed down your bike to level out with your friend, gesturing to him to pull over. You both pulled into a driveway and made your way inside the house. You both searched the house from top to bottom and made sure there was no way in or out, couldn’t risk the undead getting in during your stay here.

“So why’d you have us stop?” Amy asked.

“A storms coming. Best not to push our luck with mother nature.” You said.

“And here I thought you were just trying to get out of this.” Amy chuckled.

“It’s only us going to ensure peace between our communities. Nothing worth panicking about.” You replied.

It was then you noticed it. The subtle motions of your friend at the mention of your task. Twitching eye, nervous finger movements, shuffling on the spot. Something wasn’t right. Perhaps it was just nerves. “Go and check the cabinets, see if there’s any food we can eat. I’ll quickly head outside and grab the water bottles from our storage.” You said.

You headed outside to your bikes and grabbed four water bottles, the storm fast approaching. You headed back inside and locked the door. Once whatever food was around was gathered, you and Amy set up some defenses near the doors and windows then sat down in the living room.

“So... what do we know about Fort Dimitrescu?” you asked.

“We know that it is heavily fortified, takes up miles of land and is ruled by Chief Dimitrescu, with her daughters being her second, third and fourth in command.” Amy replied.

God... how long has it been since you last saw the Dimitrescu sisters? “And the other chiefs?” You asked.

“Chief Beneviento is the more tame of the lot. She tends to rule with a kind yet firm hand. Chief Moreau is the weakest of the lot but still dangerous, always trying to impress Overlord Miranda. Chief Heisenberg is the most unpredictable of them, always tinkering away, testing out some new war machine. Overlord Miranda... no one can get a read on her. From the stories I’ve heard, she was a scientist before the zombies showed up and she was apparently on the cusp of creating something that would help humanity.” Amy explained.

“Any idea what it was?” You asked.

“Not a clue. Her old work place was searched from top to bottom, nothing mentioned what she was working on. I did hear that she apparently had a daughter before the undead showed up.” Amy replied.

“So... what should we expect during negotiations?” you asked.

“Uh... I... I’m not sure.” Amy replied.

Not sure? Since when was she not sure.

“I do know that Chief Dimitrescu is hot.” Amy said.

“Ok? What does that have to do with anything?” You asked.

“I dunno. Maybe you will finally fall head first when you see her?” Amy wondered.

You snickered. “I highly doubt that. I have no interest in relationships.”

You noticed the nervous movements from Amy before she spoke. “Well I’m gonna hit the hay. Good night.” Then she rushed upstairs.

“Uh... yeah, good night.” You said, mainly to yourself. “What was that about?”
