Chapter Text
Mike sat tapping his hand on the desk in front of him.
God why was he so nervous..?
The bell rang and a small black rat walked in.
Mike felt unsettled. Like the rat knew everything about him inside and out. He swallowed then spoke
“hi! Welcome to Blossom hospital! How can I help you?”
The rat stared like it knew, it knew all of his secrets. All of his regrets. All of his inner soul. God it wasn’t blinking do something Mike!
“Do you need help sir..?”
“…you-“
The rat paused as he turn to look down the hallway. Nicole walked in humming to herself when she spotted the rat she lit up, “Ratthew! Hey! How’s it going?” The tension in Ratthews shoulders lifted as he smiled at the familiar face. “Nicole! I’m okay!”
Oh god. Was he about to say….nevermind how did he know is he that obvious?
He needed some fresh air. He got out of the reception room and slipped past the two who were deep in conversation. He stepped out into the night air. It was peaceful. He leaned his back against the cool stone wall sighing in relief. Why did he take this job! He thought leaning forward to bang the back of his head against the wall. God he was tired.
Red
Blue
Red
Blue
He opened his eyes and saw an ambulance approaching. Suddenly his walkie talkie came to life. “We had another anomaly attack! Everyone be ready.”
Oh god well at least it’s easier to do what we he needed to do from here.
Mike slipped into the ally way standing guard behind the chainlink fence.
Once it arrived Jay burst out the back carrying someone they looked to have been mauled..
some other critters ran behind him, all screaming, they all looked the same.
But Mike knew what was wrong.
At the third critter he sensed it,
the blue deer had blended in perfectly,
but we all know it’s hard to hide from your own kind.
That one. Wasn’t what they needed.
He grab the deers antlers yanking him back into the alley. Everyone else was to panicked to notice one of them was missing.
The deer grunted cursing “what the fuck man? I need help!”
Mike lowered his ears defensively “we both know that’s not true..” The deers facade broke as he eyed the bunny standing in front of him. “You…you’re one of us..”
Mike stayed quiet
The deer violently broke out into hysterical laughter “W-WHAT? WHY IS AN ANOMALY HELPING BLOSSOM HOSPITAL.”
Mike stayed quiet his anger bubbling.
“Pfft! Listen man I’m just trying to get some food here, you know how it is!”
Mike stepped forward grabbing the deers arm. The deer jerked back “what the fuck..? I have the same mission as you.” “No. No you don’t.”
Mike muttered. Mike held out his hand as long black claws slide out of his knuckles. The deer panicked slightly “What. What are you doing..?”
The deer tried to run,
pull his arm out of Mikes grasp but it was all to late as Mike raised his clawed hand and jabbed them into the face off the deer.
Oh the way it squirmed under his grasp as it bleed out.
He knew he shouldn’t be enjoying himself.
But it was fun.
Fun watching the life drain from this sick man’s eyes.
Knowing that if he didn’t stop him.
Someone else would’ve been hurt instead.
he couldn’t have that. Especially not one of his colleagues
Once the deer stopped moving.
His mind was set on getting a trash bag when.
Hungry..
What? He’s not..
HUNGRY
No! No! No! He’s not going to eat his own kind.
But you’ve been starving yourself.
No..he won’t. But his head felt dizzy..
What is happening to him. He’s so
H̠̀UǸ̴̰̗̭̬̮̰͚̃̀͋̑ͩͥ̃ͬ̃̔͡G̴̡̼̥̳͍̈͐ͪͫͣ̎̾̒ͥ͢͞__̡̱ͫͯR̸͔̯̱̖͙̼͛̊̐͗̽̔ͪͭ̆ͪ̾͆ͤ_̷̨̡̝̺̮̻͉̼̺̥̂̉̊͗ͫ̅͠͞͡Y̴̝̫̻̣̮͖͙̟̥ͨ̅̍́͋̽͐̊̽̌͗͘͟ͅ
Dr. Harlow was wiping the sweat off his brow.
That anomaly attack was something.
So many people hurt, it gets worse everytime.
But for some reason they’ve been having less anomalies sneak in during those periods. If none at all. It’s helpful. But it makes you wonder.
Ron stepped into the break room eyeing the space before talking. “Have y’all seen Mike? I need him for the closing shift but he’s nowhere.” Nicole poked her head around the corner “Oh I last saw him stepping outside!” Ron nodded before walking towards the entrance.
Something told him to not go out there.
Something to him to stay inside..
He stepped out looking around, mike didn’t seem to be anywhere.
Huh.
He turned the ally way corner to see.
Oh..oh my god..in the ally way looked what seem to be the remains of…something..?
He couldn’t tell what it was originally.
The strange part is it was an anomaly corpse. No way a regular critter could have done this so…only another anomaly could be responsible.
He felt like he was going to be sick. He quickly turned around rushing back inside
Mike sat hand covering his mouth so he didn’t give away his hiding spot,
god how did he do that??
He sat back pressed firmly against the back of a trashcan.
Somehow Ron didn’t see him.
He clutched his stomach. Like the contents were still alive and breathing.
But he knew he was losing his mind.
He needed to get home before Ron told the others.
He stood up and decided to climb the chainlink fence. It took some effort but he made it.
His mind was blurred as he ran,
Ran to escape what he had done.
Yes he had killed many anomalies but eating them?
That.
That was foreign.
Its well known anomalies can only eat flesh. Or meat.
He had been avoiding it for so long maybe the hunger got to him?
Sure let’s go with that.
He thanked the lack of street lights this city had as he made his way back to his apartment.
It was cool.
Just how he left it.
But it felt different.
Or maybe he felt different.
He quickly rushed to the bathroom stripping of his bloody work uniform before turning on the shower.
It was cold but he didn’t really care at this point. He watched the red seep from his yellow fur into the drain. It smelt like iron, deep, and hallow. He grabbed the soap scrubbing his body furiously. So much some of his fur came out. He washed away his sins.
And prayed,
prayed tomorrow no one would notice his odd behavior,
and prayed this would be the only time.
