"Lucky Charm!" Ladybug called out, and the familiar coil of tiny magical bugs honored her name all over the city.
She sent her yoyo flying up into the air to catch the akuma before it had the chance to fly away. Her reflexes seemed to be a little slower than usual, as it took almost twice as much strenght to send her tool flying high and far enough to reach the little butterfly. Still, she managed to get to it. She was more than grateful she had the chance to rest at last, tired from the early morning battle. Seriously, did the new villain not have anything better to do? What sort of occupation had them free at five fifteen in the morning without it causing them to crash for the rest of the day?
As the thoughts slurried in her mind (rather than raced as usual, even her thoughts seemed to be tired), she spaced out for a second, forgetting the second most important part of catching and purifying an akuma: that the yoyo that was currently in the air would fall back down just an instant later.
A loud thud later, she was brought back to reality almost as if she had been the one to catch the landing.
"KITTY! I'm so sorry, I spaced out! Are you hurt?" she cried at Chat Noir, who was currently rubbing his head where the yoyo had impacted against his bone.
"At least i had this super fluffy hair to protect me," he jokingly said, raising a thumb to further prove his point.
"It's not funny! How do you even have jokes ready this early? I could've hurt you so, so badly! I'm so sorry, this akuma has me beyond tired," Ladybug apologized further.
"Hey, it's al- alright! No biggie," Chat Noir tried to calm her; just a little more apologizing and she would be on the floor begging for forgiveness.
Ladybug didn't seem to notice his stutter.
"You sure?" she asked.
"Sure sure," Chat confirmed.
"You should really get that checked out," Ladybug explained. "My yoyo fell on you from half the height of the Eiffel Tower."
"Nah, it's probably fine. I've gotten way worse injuries while fighting, you know."
"Yeah, but those times were before I casted my Lucky Charm! I can't heal you now, I completely mixed up my usual order for the magic," she finished, rubbing her eyes softly with sleepiness.
"It's fiiiine," Chat Noir tried to assure her. "I'm feeling okay," he finished, rubbing his own eyes. Once he was done, he immediately rubbed them again. And once again.
Three times seemed to be the charm, as he finally readied himself for their next move.
"Pound i-" She tried turning around for her usual end of battle salute with her partner, only to be met with thin air where he was just a moment ago.
"Sorry! Got distracted for a second," Chat Noir explained from a few steps away, clearly caught in conversation with the akumatized victim of the day. "I'm back!" He hurried over to meet her raised fist.
"Now, pound it!"
After their fistbump, Ladybug stopped him.
"If you feel weird, let me know. I can take you to the hospital or something. Or you could go to the hospital on your own. Or you could have someone go check in on you!"
To ease her worries, Chat Noir decided on agreeing. "I promise I will, though I feel peachier than Mr. Banana right now."
"Well, but you might start feeling weird later, so just keep an eye out, will you? Promise?"
"Promise!"
Trying to calm her worries, Ladybug took a deep breath before parting for the day.
"Tell me if you feel weird!" she yelled at Chat Noir, before giggling at him almost missing the next rooftop in his way with his baton.
By the time he got home and detransformed, Adrien was starting to seriously consider Ladybug's words.
"Plagg?" he called out for his kwami as soon as the tiny being became visible. "I can't get injured while in my suit, can't I?" Adrien asked.
"Well, that's mostly because of the failsafe the Lucky Charm gives you. The suit itself gives you some extra endurance, but it depends a lot on too many factors." Plagg tried to summarize, not up for giving the full list if it wasn't needed. Too much to bother with. Besides, Adrien probably just wanted a quick answer.
"Factors like what?" the boy inquired.
There went his hopes of not having to teach the whole class. Maybe there was still a chance, though.
"Mostly who it was, what intentions they had, and if you were actively trying to not get hurt. There's too many others, but those are the main ones."
"Well, the yoyo caught me off guard, but I think Ladybug didn't mean to like, hurt hurt me, you know? And since we're partners, I don't think it should be too bad on me," Adrien reasoned. As he paced around the room, he placed his hands on his head, and squirmed.
"Can you help me turn off the lights, Plagg? It's still too early and Ladybug's sleepiness must have stuck to me too. Even my head hurts now, it's making me nauseous."
Plagg obliged, staring at Adrien through the corner of his eye as he hovered towards the light switch and back to his place beside Adrien. Maybe he should be the one to keep an eye on the boy for now.
By the time he woke up, Adrien's tiredness had barely receded, if not at all. "That's why no one like early akumas! If you stay up late at least you get to sleep later, but like this we all get it in bits and now the whole city is probably tired," he ranted. "I want to sleep more."
"I don't think Nathalie wouldn't say no. Why don't you go ask her?" Plagg suggested. Surely some sleep would help, right?
"Wait, you're right!" Adrien practically jumped up from his bed, struggling to keep his balance. Probably a side effect of getting up so fast.
"Good morning, Nathalie!" he greeted as he entered the kitchen for his breakfast, and fell.
"Marinette isn't here yet, but I think she shouldn't take much lon-," her yawn was interrupted. "ADRIEN!"
"I'm fine, I just forgot my slippers and lost my balance so I slipped!"
"Are you hurt anywhere?" Nathalie asked, concerned. As if to check herself, she started patting Adrien's head in various places, lightly pressing down.
"I'm oka- OW!" he winced when she pressed the place where the yoyo had struck him.
"Did you hit yourself before or was it from the fall?" Nathalie's voice made her urgency evident despite her attempt to stay collected.
"I'm fine! I just- uh- I... rolled over and fell from my bed while I was sleeping, and I hit my head against the floor," Adrien lied as fast as he could. The bright lights and the sudden movement were not helping his previous nausea.
His face must have given him away, as Nathalie immediately asked him about it. "Are you okay?"
"I'm good! I'm just a little nauseous from tiredness, you know, since I woke up when I fell and with that akuma earlier."
At those words, Nathalie's eyes burst open with worry, and she called out for Adrien's bodyguard. "PLACIDE! Call an ambulance!"
"W-What? I'm fine, I promise!"
"You have a concussion from the fall, Adrien, but we'll get you checked, alright? I'll go text Marinette you're not going to be able to have breakfast with her, don't worry about it."
