fin rot
noun
A progressive bacterial or fungal condition affecting fish, characterized by the gradual deterioration of the fins and tail, often beginning at the edges and advancing inward. Symptoms include fraying, discoloration, and tissue loss, which may worsen without treatment and lead to severe damage or death. Fin rot is commonly associated with stress, poor water conditions, or underlying injury, and is both a sign and consequence of environmental imbalance.
