Chapter Text
He was taken in 1938. A woman was dragged off with him. When its quiet, he can still hear himself screaming "Emme!"
She screamed back "Peeter!
He heard shooting. His father's hand was all he could see from inside his home. His mother was taken to an all girl's "camp".
That was so long ago. Thinking about the past for this long hurt his head.

They hated him. He may have been young, but he wasn't stupid. No one beats someone they love this much.
The doctor was possibly the most annoying of the group, though he would never say that out loud. He loved to poke and prod Peeter. Before, he barely saw the doctor, but now he saw him daily. Something about reproducing something. He stopped paying attention once they stopped bringing in a translator.
He wasn't allowed to speak Estonian anymore. They said the only acceptable language was German. He once tried to ask for food—"Kas ma võin leiba saada?"—which only earned him a beating so bad that he couldn't move his right hand for a month.

They started training him. He wasn't sure why, but they did. It was his routine now: wake, train, see the doctor, train, eat, get hosed, sleep. Everyday, non-stop.
The soldiers stopped calling him Knabe. They called him Waffe now. He missed being called Peeter. Sometimes he would whisper his own name in the night.
Whatever the doctor—Dr. Schülter—wanted, had happened. He healed from the beatings faster, saw better, heard better. Still, Dr. Schülter wasn't satisfied. More needles, more tests, more long hours of sitting with only his thoughts, an IV drip, and the doctor to keep him company.

They made him kill one of his trainers. He had to watch them strap him down, then fire the gun. One shot wasn't enough for them. He had to keep pulling the trigger until there were no bullets left to fire.
Peeter cried. They beat him.

He started blacking out more. The trainers and soldiers seemed to not care. Apparently he was meant to do that. It was a good thing when he'd black out at mid-day and only rouse in the morning of the next day. "Progress", they called it.
Only speaking German wasn't good enough anymore, even though it's what he was told to speak. They made him study Russian with a tutor. Once he learned enough, they would swap to another language.
The tutor's name was Mr. Васильев. He was the kindest of the men that Peeter met so far. He had the soldiers bring food to help teach. Every right answer earned a small portion of whatever meal brought that day. When the food was finished, so was the lesson. Luckily, Peeter learned fast.
Dr. Schülter made everyone call him "Spinne". He said it means spider. He wasn't a spider, but he knews better that to question Dr. Schülter.

They made spiders bite him. One after another, they made them bite him. He was sick for a full month afterwards. He didn't feel much pain anymore.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
They made him sit in an odd looking chair. It hurt. It made him scream for hours and hours, "Halt! Bitte, um Himmels willen, halt! Lase mind lahti! Halt!"
They don't stop. He thinks he might die right there, surrounded by hateful men and scientists.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
They made him black out. He realized it when they were shelling a place too close to the base he was kept at. A soldier yelled out some words and suddenly he was in a new base, changed, and in bed.
Peeter was terrified. What was he doing when he blacked out? What were they doing when he blacked out? Dr. Schülter and Mr. Васильев needed to spend an hour coaxing him out of the space under his bed. He was beat afterwards.

Dr. Schülter said they need to send him into cryo freeze. Spinne doesn't ask why. He stopped asking questions a while ago.
It's been a while, he assumes. He can't remember his parents' names. He doesn't really want to either.
They instruct him to get in a pod. Before they close him in, they say those words. Spinne doesn't remember if anything else happened after that.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
Everyone spoke Russian now, Spinne noticed. His name seemed to change with it. "Паук" is what all the new recruits called him.
He found out that Mr. Васильев died while he was in cryo. Shot in the back of the head while running away. A traitor. Паук couldn't find it in himself to care.
He blacks out. He is covered in blood when he awakes.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
They introduced him to Coлдат. They are the same, Dr. Schülter said, but Паук is not as strong. He is to shadow a Солдат on a mission and learn.
Cолдат kills three men. Паук observes.
He did not cry anymore. He does not flinch.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
A man tries to speak with him in English. Паук was taught only idiots spoke English unless necessary.
"So, Puak, do you like it here?"
Паук isn't stupid. He does not respond.
"Probably weird taking orders from people younger than you, eh? I mean, I was born in 41. What about you? When were you born?"
The man is shot the next day for being a spy, not that Паук got to see.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
He's frozen more than he is not. Паук was brought out just to be told Dr. Schülter died, then frozen again.
Old age is how he went out. 89 years old, still working loyally for HYDRA. Last time Паук saw him, he was only 53.
Паук is angry that a tear leaves his face.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
He had to do his mission.
It wasn't a kill mission this time. He just had to help girls out of a cargo container and into vans. It was simple.
A red headed girl stumbled as she walked. She was clearly injured. Nervously, she looked around, as if trying to find someone. She stumbled again, almost falling to her face.
Паук grabed her arm, pulling her back to standing.
"Спасибо." She said
"Держись с достоинством." He replied.
She kept walking.
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
Паук isn't stupid, he knows they no longer have a use for him. Cолдат does his job so perfectly that Паук gets called out of cryo very little, and its usually just to babysit Widows on their first missions.
He knows that soon he will be put under for the last time, but still, he foolishly hopes that when they close that door and he freezes over again, he will again see the door open. He hopes that he will see an agent's face again. He hopes that he will once more be able to utter the words: "Готов выполнить"
ᡕᠵデᡁ᠊╾━ ☆
They wake him for maintenance or to make him work simple missions. The time between being frozen and unfreezing increases.
It shouldn't have surprised Паук that he closed his eyes on a clean, well kept facility, and opened them to an abandoned room covered in dirt and cobwebs.
A man stood in front of him. He had blond hair and wore blue, red, and white. A Russian maybe?
"Готов выполнить"
