Michelle found it worrying that no one had seemed to pick up on how Liz was a senior. She knew Peter was blinded, transfixed on the idea of Liz—her hair, her eyes, the way she seemed to attract all the attention in the room like a holy angel.
She’d seen the way Peter’s eyes lit up every time Liz mentioned his name in decathlon like her voice was a blessing. It was something of a crush, something usually innocent enough. It made her stomach roil, an uneasy feeling she swore wasn't jealousy. It was sorry, because Peter was a victim and her own feelings had nothing to do with the situation.
Peter was freshly fifteen. Liz was due to turn eighteen in a few weeks. Eighteen was adulthood.

Peter always knew he was the odd one out in his family. It wasn't like he didn't try, he did try to be apart of the family just when he was younger and it never worked. He was never able to connect with anyone, at least not the way Harley connected with their dad, or the way Morgan had everyone wrapped around her little finger since the day she was born.
Peter was just there, in a way he believed that he wasn't important, not to his family anyway. That was what he always believed, at least before he got his powers and became the one and only Spider-man.
