Chapter Text
"Can- can a quirkless person become a h-hero?"
That is the question he asks All Might. After the day he lived he wants to- no. he needs to know. He needs to know that he can help people, that he is not useless. He needs to know that all his pain is worth something. If he knows that he can be a hero then he can try living-
"No." …eh? "A quirkless person can't become a hero."
...
ah
...
Of course.
Izuku should have known. And he did know, he just denied it until now. But he can't deny it after his Hero called him worthless. Because that's what he is. Worthless. Useless. A good for nothing. It would be better if he died.
"...be realistic..." he hears. All Might is still talking. Why is he still bothering with him? He isn't worth a hero’s time.
"Take a swan dive off a roof!"
He should, shouldn't he? That's what everyone says. Even if they don't say it, no one takes the flowers off his desk. No one stops them from beating him until he bleeds. No one defends him after they give him detention.
Because they know he can't be a hero. All Might knows he can't be a hero. And now he does too.
He waits until All Might leaves the roof.
Taking off his shoes and lining them near the edge.
He climbs over the railing
and falls.
He doesn't think about calling his mother.
He doesn't think about Kacchan's words.
He doesn't think about saying goodbye.
He does not think about All Might.
All he can think about is how nice it feels to be weightless.
"...Umm. Hello?"
Izuku opens his eyes. He is... in his room?
Why is he here? Wasn't he falling? He should have hit the ground.
"...Who- who are you?"
The same voice calls out and it is... him? Izuku looks at the small figure and... is that him? He is very small but he looks like Izuku. The same green hair, freckles on his face and... and an All Might Figurine he lost as a child (they stole it from him).
Did he- did he go back in time? Maybe someone saw him and accidentally used their quirk to save him. That is not good. Izuku isn't someone worth saving. He is so worthless he can't even die right.
"You- you're muttering, sir. Muttering is is bad." Oh, right. There is a kid here. And the kid immediately starts panicking. "Un-unless you'r quirked of-of course! There is no-nothing w-wrong with mut-ttering!!"
Well, he is Izuku alright.
"It's alright, I don't have a quirk. And..." Should he tell him? Izuku doesn't know how much time he has here or if he is going back at all. "and I think I am your future self."
Izuku, the younger one, brightens up and... he- he shouldn't. He shouldn't smile at someone as worthless as him. "My future self?! You'r from the future? How is the future, how did you come back here? Was it a quirk? Do you have a quirk?! I don't have a quirk but maybe you do in the future-"
Izuku, the older one, puts a hand on his younger self's mouth to shut him up. Or... he tries to.
His hand passed through him and he sees- "AHHH!" He doesn't know who screamed but both Izukus jump back and fall on their asses.
"IZUKU!" Mother slams the door open. She looks younger too. "Why are you screaming? You should be getting ready!" At least she has her usual temper.
"Mother! My- My future self is-is here and he t-touched me and it- it was weird!" Please don't phrase it like that, younger Izuku.
Mother for her part just looks toward where younger Izuku is pointing but doesn't seem to see him. Is he some kind of a ghost then?
"Izuku stop spouting nonsense. There is no one here." She sighs, "Come eat your food, we shouldn't be late." Then she leaves.
Izukus turn to look at each other.
"Are- are you a g-ghost?" He looks at Izuku with awe. He shouldn't.
"I think I am." He shouldn't be.
"I- I can see ghosts." young one whispers. He shouldn't be alive.
As the young Izuku leaves him on the floor, all he can think is-
I am still weightless.
