Winter Blossoms

Summary:

We all know the story of the the Ancients and the Beasts and how the Beasts were once great and powerful virtues and befell corruption...but what if, there was a sixth virtue. One that didn't corrupt. One that tried to prevent it but failed and crumbled in the end. One that fate decided to give a second chance at life...and perhaps even love.

Chapter 1: Arrival in the Dark Cacao Kingdom

Chapter Text

Nothing. That was all this cookie and his meringue pups could feel as they walked the snowy ground and unforgiving winds. They had just landed ashore after a long trek sailing the Licorice Sea. The meringue pups yipped tiredly, one even was sleeping soundly in its master's arms. The cookie kept walking, trying to find a warm, comfortable place for him and the pups to rest a little. His white buttery colored hair flowed against the breeze, his regal robes billowing against his body as the winds roared and whistled around them. Snow clung to his lashes, his robes, and the Meringue pups fur. The cookie wondered if anyone lived upon these frost bitten grounds, or if he and the pups were the only ones to roam this strange new continent. His fingers stroked the Meringue pup in his arms fur absent mindedly as his gaze wandered the fight and white terrain around them.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the cookie spotted a small cottage, made from the wood of a choco cone spruce tree and choco bamboo.

-It seems worn down...abandoned, maybe?-
The cookie thought to himself.
-It'll do.-

He headed towards the cottage, the Meringue pups padding behind him. The cookie peered into the window to check if his suspicions were correct. The small cottage was indeed abandoned. Once confirming the cottage was indeed abandoned, he pulled the door open. A large pile of snow that had been sitting atop the roof fell upon the cookie and the meringue pups, startling them. The pups yip in surprise, popping their little heads out from the pile of snow they had been buried under and hopping out of it before padding into the cottage. A few sneezed, the sound high pitched and awfully adorable. The cookie chuckled in amusment, brushing the snow off his shoulders and hair. He twirled his finger, and the pile of snow poofed away into little snow particles. Now inside the cottage, the pups quickly made themselves at home, piling up on top of each other to get some much needed rest after their long travel. The cookie smiled warmly, his gaze held adoration and love for the pups as he then gently sets the pup that was asleep in his arms down with the other meringue pups.

The cookie made sure he had closed the cottage door before sitting down in a wooden chair, his body melting into it as he finally could relax. His mind was a whirlwind of burning questions though...what brought him back? He destroyed the source of his life force so how could he still possibly be alive? Was it a cruel joke from the witches? A way to torment him even more after the events of everything he tried to plead them to prevent from happening? With an exasperated sigh, the cookie stood up and grabbed some fire wood that was sitting next to the fireplace that the pups were sleeping next to. He put the wood inside the fire place, grabbed a smaller piece of wood and blew on it, making the end he blew on catch fire. He then tossed the smaller piece of wood on top of the bigger pieces in the fireplace, the flammable material catching fire immediately. The fire illuminated the room, a warm and gentle color that put the cookie at ease. Sitting back down, he pondered.

This cottage was living proof other cookies lived here but just didn't seem to be present. But this revelation worried him. Did others here have knowledge of his long lost home? If they did, would they seek him out if they knew who he once was? Would they try to kill him, use him, or worse? The cookie shook his head, trying to dispel his anxious thoughts, but they lingered. He twirled his finger again and cloth, scissors, sewing supplies and more appeared on the wooden table he sat beside. To ease his worries, he decided to go ahead and make himself a disguise, hide himself just in case. The cookie quickly got to work, his hands and fingers worked nimbly and carefully as he made himself new clothes while he hummed. Humming calmed him, it kept happy memories latched into his mind, soothing his anxiety. He smiled as he remembered the first time the song he was humming was sang, before everything that had happened, before...He was then startled by one of the Meringue pups hopping into his lap, whimpering for attention. The cookie rolled his eyes with a chuckle, petting the Meringue pup as he worked.

The cookie tried different styles of clothing, regal robes that he was used to wearing but made him stand out too much, casual clothes that seemed unusual for the weather in this land, and more. He finally, made one that didn't make him stand out but still felt like him, black warm leggings and boots, a corset, and a cream colored shirt with long puffy sleeves. Once he tried it on, he felt more at ease, more...comfortable. With a small smile, the cookie then decided to change his hair color. He used his magic or what was left of it to change its texture and color, finally going with with a multi color caramel color scheme and curls, and tied it into a small side ponytail. The pup that had hopped into his lap earlier stood beside him yipping in agreement that the style looked good on him. The sun finally set over the horizon, casting a warm glow upon the snow and inside the cottage. The cookie watched the moon rise from the other side, it's glow fogged from the snow that profusely fell. He knew they'd have to continue their travel in the morning, so maybe he could allow himself to rest just this once...

The next morning, the cookie had packed his things and woke the meringue pups so they could get going. He put on a fluffy cream colored shawl on, made from some of the meringue pups fur, and they then left the cottage. The cookie's thoughts were quiet while they walked, still unsure what to do or process correctly. The meringue pups played as they walked, playfully jumping on each other or playfully nipping at each other's ears. The cookie felt more at ease with the pups at his side. They helped him rekindle his lost hope, helped him see that not every thing that mattered to him was gone.

The cookie then remembered something...if he was to have a disguise, then he needed a name, not the title he had gone by all those years ago. He pondered, even asking the Meringue pups which names he made up sounded best for him. But his thoughts and suggestions were forced to a stop. Something was watching them. The wind howled violently but to the cookie...it felt quiet. Too quiet to be normal.

"Stay beside me." The cookie murmured quietly to the pups, to which they obeyed and pressed their little bodies against his legs, their teeth bared and eyes narrowed as they kept a look out for danger. The cookie eyed their surroundings, searching for any abnormality within the harsh pouring snow and loud wind.

-FWISH-

The cookie reacted fast, catching the object before it hit him. An arrow. His eyes narrowed as he widened his stance. It was hard to see much in this witches forsaken snowfall. Then, he caught movement. A figure, no, multiple figures moving around them...circling them.

 "Show yourselves!"
The cookie said firmly, hoping his voice carried through the wind.
"We mean you no harm!"

Two cookies came into view, circling the cookie and his meringue pups. One wielded a bow and arrow, her eyes sharp and fierce as she eyed the cookie up and down. Another was one on the short side, but wielded a look far fiercer then the other cookie's and was also accompanied by a pack of cream wolves...creatures the cookie had never seen before.

"If you truly mean no harm...then state your business in the Dark Cacao Kingdom!" The first cookie said, her hand gripping her bow and arrow tightly as she kept it aimed at the cookie.

 -Dark Cacao Kingdom...?-
The cookie thought to himself. So that's what this place was called.
"My name is Butter Cream Cookie."
He then announced.
"I come seeking refuge, even if only for a couple nights. Me and my Meringue pups have recently just recovered from our voyage across the sea and ended up here with nowhere to go."

The two cookies that had the cookie, Butter Cream Cookie, and his meringue pups trapped looked at each other. The cookie accompanied by the pack of cream wolves eyed Butter Cream Cookie up and down, his facial expression scrunched up into one of judgement and gauging the way the other cookie reacted to their presence. The two cookies turned to each other and spoke amongst one another, trying to figure out what to do. The cream wolves on the other hand made sure that the meringue pups nor Butter Cream Cookie would try and escape, snarling at them whenever they moved even an inch. Butter Cream Cookie remained calm, but his heart pounded nervously beneath his dough. When the two cookies finally turned to face Butter Cream Cookie again, the one with the arrow spoke first.

"You don't seem much like a threat, but we are not ones to blindly trust you based on appearances and presence alone." She said, her voice firm and unwavering. "We will take you to our king, see what he wants to do with you." She added before turning and waving her hand for Butter Cream Cookie to follow.

Butter Cream Cookie and the meringue pups followed, with the other cookie and his cream wolves following behind them to make sure they wouldn't try any attempts at escape. Butter Cream Cookie took a deep breath as he and the meringue pups walked, his gaze never leaving the cookie leading them's silhouette. He thought to himself that this would be a good opportunity to make his way around this terrain, to understand this new world he found himself in. With another deep calming breath, Butter Cream Cookie continued to follow, preparing himself for what may come next.
