Work Text:
"Guys..." April began, looking frustrated. The turtles were confused; to Donatello, it was more of a frustration combined with sadness... This may not be about tests or not being able to do a new move. Was it related to the institute?
"What's up!" Mikey hugged his sister. Freckled grin, trying to distract the room.
"I have bad news..."
"Karai?" Leo's question was met with a shake of the head.
"Jean being perfect or something?" Raph's remark made sense; April had recently had a bit of an issue with self-image regarding her teacher.
"No... Dad... he texted me he was going to stay the night with Elektra." The room filled with silence as they processed this. The Hamato clan had done their best to leave him alone about his romantic endeavors. Really, they had; he could date whoever he wanted, but it didn't mean they had to like it. It didn't mean they didn't observe. Sure, sometimes they liked the woman; they just didn't like the way she controlled Matt. A walking contradiction that never seemed to know what she wanted or forgot she shouldn't mold people into her fetish.
April sat down not even bothering to push any of them away as they created a cuddle pile around the telepath. "It's not our business... he's a grown man. We are grown people... he lets us have our relationships and failures. We have to do the same."
"Yeah, but like, they broke up a month before Christmas, dude! She kind of made us end up in last-minute Christmas plans!" Of course Mikey still pouted about that.
"I just say Murdotou-san is pulling a Leo."
"Not helping Raph," answered the turtle tightly.
"I just want him to be happy, you know?" she mumbled, cuddling closer to Mikey and Raph. Her hands were tightly in Donnie's and Leo's. "But we know what she will do. We've seen it... last time he SAID it was the last time."
"Yes... he did say that; I even have the recording."
"DONNIE!"
"He's a lawyer! I needed assurance!" Donnie's defensive tone did not amuse his siblings. "That's besides the point! The sudden blackout in New York led to a lot of problems; there were a lot of shootouts. Maybe she was involved in one?"
"Aha, so what? She deals with that all the time; why would she play the 'Oh, Matty, I'm so scared; why don't you stay a little' thing? That's stupid, even for Mikey, and that's saying something." Raph raised an eyebrow.
"Heyyyy!" Mikey pushed Raph away.
"Guys, we need to take this seriously." Leo got up, holding them behind their shell. April almost laughed at how silly this all was.
"We took it seriously with the whole awkward situation between you and Karai. Did you listen? No. So shut up, Leo. Murdotou-san is just like you, with the 'I can fix them' complex," Raph pointed out, pushing himself off his hold.
"I have to agree with Raph on this one. We did try to intervene, but you clung harder."
"Until we all found out she's our sister!" Mikey was still hanging on Leo's grasp somehow, looking like he was having the time of his life.
"The point is..." April looked at her hands. "We may not agree on what he does or his relationships... but we can't intervene unless it hurts us directly."
"So we do nothing," grumbled Raph.
Leo sighed somberly; Mikey let himself put it down without a smile anymore. Donnie turned towards his T-phone, where the text was.
"Yeah...nothing."
