In his peripherals, he could see Arthur making frantic gestures at him to stop and Morgana clutching at her own arms, but he was done letting Uther walk all over them.
“I am bound to your children as their protector, guide, and supporter, and I cannot allow even you to hurt them as you are. So, I say, that is enough.”
Uther went pale and Merlin could hear gasps from a few of the older counselors. Clearly, they had recognized the phrasing he was using.

To a casual observer, nothing much changed. Arthur still trained with the knights and went on hunts. Morgana still walked the markets and met with her ladies-in-waiting. Merlin still followed Arthur everywhere he went and argued with everything he said. Gwen was still to be found at her lady’s side or running her errands. No formal declarations of any kind were made and anyone not watching closely would not notice anything out of the ordinary.
