Wilbur’s narrowed gaze softened into something sincere, “I’m not going to get mad at you or anything. Or laugh, or whatever you’re thinking…”
Tommy might just break at that.

“Phil?” Tommy calls, “Tech? Wil!” He shouts a little louder.
Hostile memories creep up of his first house. Not his first foster house, but his house. Memories from only two years ago, when he was only six, rising up in the back of his throat and tasting like bile.
It’s all too similar.
No, no, no, Tommy thinks, because this is a good house. Phil loves him. His brothers love him. They won’t do what his first family did, they won’t leave him to wake up in an empty house, not again.
Not again.
Please, please, not again.
Or: Tommy has a nightmare where history repeats itself. When he wakes up, Phil shows Tommy that his past will never again become his present.

With every day, her health only further declined, and with every day, Tommy distanced himself further and further from her.
He ran from her like she wasn’t even his mother. He discarded her like trash- he treated the best person in his life like fucking trash because he was scared.

Tommy barely resists the urge to glare at Wilbur and his audacity to speak of the dead like he ever knew them.

There’s silence on the other end for a long moment. “Are you outside, Tommy?” Wilbur asks.
Tommy frowns, a little hurt by Wilbur’s indifference. “The balcony, yeah? Why?”
“Look up.”
Blindly following his brother’s instructions, Tommy tilts his head, seeing the cloudy sky above. The moon shines alone through the dull fog. A half moon, not full, not a crescent, just a boring half moon.
“Okay,” Tommy mutters, squinting at the white spot in the sky, “Now what?”
“Now we share the moon.”
