Summary
The mechanisms in their clocks start to click. Dante wonders if they’re hallucinating it since they’re not trying to speak anymore. But the clock keeps ticking, faster now, backwards, but it’s not the same as a normal rewinding. Dante feels a tug in their ribcage, not unlike the first time they met the sinners.
It’s nostalgic, in a way. Sometimes they wish they could be brought back, to before any of this happened, to before-
Dante falls backwards. The star glows above them.
It feels strange, to be fully bathed in its light, with its full attention on Dante for once.
Dante can’t figure out what it means, but the star cries,
and it cries,
and it cries out for Dante to-
Wake up, Dante thinks, and when they regain consciousness it’s like boiling water has been poured over them. Icy at first, then all at once it’s too hot.
(or, a story where Dante's clock had another mechanism no one had known about)
