Charlie finally has the chance to feel nervous.
And then Geoff says, “I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that you haven’t mentioned Ben once since you entered this room,” and Charlie knows he’s in some shit.

Summary
It’s strange at first that after a week of being broken up with, he was suddenly dating someone new, and being asked to be someone’s boyfriend only a week after. He only finds it strange because he knows others would find it suspect—did he even ever like Ben? Shouldn’t he be more broken up about the whole thing?
But after a bit of berating himself over not caring about Ben as much as he should’ve, he gave up on that bitterness towards himself and extended a deep love towards Nick instead.
Because, yeah, Charlie loves him. He really, really does.

Summary
Charlie turns to Nick. They smile at each other like lovesick fools as Charlie folds his hands behind his back, resting on his tailbone, leaning against the door. Nick looks good after wiping his tears away; eyes red-rimmed, but sated. Happy. Charlie is so glad he was able to make today perfect for him, and he hopes he can make the rest of the night even better.
"Happy birthday, sweetheart. Good party?" Charlie asks just to watch Nick smile with his sunrise-painted cheeks and angel-touched mouth and nod, happy like a little kid. Charlie will love him forever, so he tells him so. It comes easy as breathing now.
Nick leans his forehead against Charlie's and whispers, as he always does, "I love you back."
or, Nick turns 26. He is happy. Charlie realises that maybe happy can be enough.
