Summary
Pulling the sheet to her, Agatha gets up, draws a hand through her hair. “Get up,” she says, loudly.
The woman – Rio, if Agatha remembers correctly, Jesus fucking Christ – only mumbles something in response and turns over, away from the noise. On her back, right below her neck, the black tendrils of a tattoo spiral across her shoulder blades.
Agatha’s too fucking old for this. “Get up,” she repeats. She’s been teaching for over twenty years; she knows how to make her voice carry in a room.

Summary
“Oh my god,” Billy says, and when Rio glances up, they’re all staring at her: Billy, Eddie, Alice, Jen. “You and Agatha went on a date.”
Rio scoffs. “It wasn’t a date. It was just dinner.”
“So you just rolled out of bed and let her buy you an expensive dinner?” Jen says, which makes Alice snort.
“Sounds like you have a sugar mama,” Alice says. “I guess that’s one way of surviving academia.” They all laugh, and Alice raises her water glass to salute Rio. “No judgment,” she adds. “I would kill for a hot older professor buying me dinner and helping me with my writing.”

Summary
For a wild moment, Rio imagines her in all her glory – her sharp button-up, her wild hair, the heavy, esoteric pendant swinging around her neck – in her parents’ apartment; Agatha Harkness against the homey, beige normality of the Vidal family, and it’s as if her brain short-circuits for a second, giving her 404 File not found in the stead of any idea of what that would actually look like.
“Well,” she continues, “since all of us are going home, we’re planning on having a little pre-Thanksgiving get-together this weekend, at mine and Billy’s.”
“Okay,” Agatha says. “Just don’t expect me to bake anything.”

Summary
“I’m not jealous,” Rio says. “What do I have to be jealous of? I’m almost done with my dissertation and that little idiot can’t even receive feedback on a chapter without needing a ‘debrief’ and Agatha to hold her hand.”
“No, I agree,” Jen says, sitting back. “You’re really taking this with complete equilibrium. It seems that you’re dealing with it in a super-healthy, totally emotionally responsible way.”
