  Summary

  Elara Hawthorne serves as Caledon University's Writer-in-Residence, after a painful experience in her family. She quickly ends up forming bonds there, including but not limited to Amir Llewellyn-Fayad, son of Caledon's President Yasmin Fayyad and sister of elusive poet Safiya Llewellyn-Fayad, called Safi, to whom Elara was never too close. After Safi is found dead on the snowy campus, Caledon seems spellbound by grief, which is also the point, where Elara gains the power to cross between two universes.
