Summary
His lips quirk up when Mitsuba wraps his pinky around his own, and quickly, Kou raises their intertwined fingers up and down. "Now will you tell me what's going on?"
"Impatient." Mitsuba sniffs, head shaking, and Kou bites down on his tongue to keep from baring his teeth in a hissing growl. This was just how Mitsuba was. This was what he fought to keep by his side. Being a little irritable shouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things. "But, we did promise, a pinky one too, so uhm.. where do I start…" He scrunches up his face, tapping his chin, before his eyes snap open and he slams his fist against his open palm. "Ah! Right! Okay, let's go back to the beginning…" Mitsuba starts, clapping his hands together with a grin.
"So, see, it started a few days ago, when Nanamine asked me where Tsukasa-kun had gone…"

Summary
He waits for one full week.
7 days. 168 hours. 10,080 minutes.
And nothing happens.
No one shows up in his boundary. No one drags him out of a mirror while he's looking into it. Nanamine calls him, here and there, but she doesn't ask about the box, and she doesn't look like she knows what Tsukasa is doing, because even Kokujodai isn't near her, and Mitsuba feels that yearning again, tugging at his heart like he's actually going to die. He's felt it before, he knows, when Kou is leaving to go back home or to class after their hangouts and Mitsuba feels his chest ache, his head pounding something fierce as his eyes burned without any relief. Once, he had asked Nanamine about this, worried that something was wrong for him to feel so physically ill when Kou left him and Nanamine had frowned at him, brows furrowed, head tilted as she held a book open in her hands.
"Perhaps," she had started, a musing tone to her words as monotone as they are, "you're experiencing what humans call—the act of missing someone."

Summary
Rust has the smell of dried blood.
Like copper pennies and iron work tools and the melting of metal, rust has a sort of smell that is almost consistent with dried blood, making his nostrils burn as it permeates the room.
The creature at his feet lays twitching, not dead yet, its eyes still holding a fraction of light that stares up at him, pleading almost. Don't kill me, please, it tells him. I don't want to die, it repeats. That's all it's been doing since he's caught it, really, begging for its life, even as the wounds inflicted on it ooze with each breath. His nostrils burn with the smell of rust in the air. If he were anyone else, perhaps if he were him, the display of pity would be enough. He'd back away, apologizing, spluttering and stammering over his words before he hides in a corner, shaking like a leaf.
It's too bad for the creature then, that Tsukasa can't remember what it feels like to feel fear.

Summary
"You say that but what if today's the day he decides you stay?" Yokoo pouts. "You've been tardy a lot these days, Kou, and if not tardy, then just plain gone. If I was your homeroom teacher, I'd make you stay the whole three hours too!"
"Thank god you aren't then."
"Kou—"
"Yokoo-san, Satou-san, class is over."
Echoing slightly, Tsuchigomori's voice makes both of Kou's friends sigh, offering him a frown as they grab their bags, shuffling out the door. The moment it closes behind them, Tsuchigomori goes back to grading his papers, as if nothing is the matter. Kou slumps in his seat, adjusting his gloves while glancing out the window. Soon, it'd get dark, and he'd come home in the middle of the night, tired beyond belief and grabbing his staff, hands aching something fierce—
"What's up with you, brat?"
