Summary
There’s a pause for a moment, and then Buck says, “It’s not like I would have really considered it after that, but for just a second, it was nice to feel… wanted? By two people? I just–I just think I’m a monogamous kinda guy. I guess I do hope they find someone that fits with them the right way, but I really just want to find my person, you know?”
Or, Buck wants his person, and Eddie wants Buck.

Summary
After leaving Hen’s hospital room, they take the elevator down and head for the lobby chairs. Sure, they had found out she was sick before tonight, but seeing it happen—seeing her go from standing one second to watching as she crumbled to the floor the next, with no apparent outward cause—has left them both shaken.
And leaving the hospital? That would make it real.
So by unspoken agreement they choose seats side by side in a less-populated corner of the room to take time to gather their thoughts, settle their nerves—prepare to accept a new reality.
Or, Buck and Eddie take a moment to process.

Summary
He finds the game show channel Buck usually watches when he’s cooking and tunes in to an old episode of Jeopardy! just as Alex Trebek reveals to the contestants that the answer that stumped them was “love at first sight,” and that makes Eddie think about a different Alex—not that he’s in love with Alex Doyle, he barely knows her, but he’s still been stumped about what Abigail was implying during their very odd dinner.
Or, Eddie watches Jeopardy! and thinks about how he barely thinks about Alex Doyle.

Summary
Eddie gets a far-away look in his eyes before he shakes his head and says, “It was–it was for the orphans, man.”
And Buck knows there’s more to it than that, but he can still see the rigidity in Eddie’s shoulders so he decides to try and lighten the mood. “So where are you going to take Maddie out?”
Hesitating, Eddie says, “I wasn’t planning on taking her anywhere. I Venmoed her the money and figured that was that.”
“What, is she not good enough to spend an evening with?” Buck asks with mock indignation.
“You want me to take your married—to our captain, might I add—sister out?”
“Well, she is kinda your type.”
Eddie arches an eyebrow. “And what type is that?”
Or, Buck learns why Eddie's been so reluctant to rejoin the dating pool.

Summary
Rubbing the back of his neck with a grimace as he walks past, Buck says, “So it took about ten minutes of conversation for me to put two-and-two together and realize that she was that kid Blue’s mom.”
Eddie lets out a low whistle. "With the way she was looking over I’m surprised she gave you more than five minutes without hinting that y’all should take things elsewhere.”
Buck nods. “There was some very suggestive eye contact, but quick and dirty in a bathroom stall or the backseat of a car really isn’t my thing anymore. Besides, I’d rather hang out with you anyway.”
Or, Eddie isn't alone for very long after leaving Buck at the bar in Nashville.

Summary
He was getting used to the idea when they crossed state lines into California around sunset—as he glanced over at his sleeping best friend and, despite all the cuts and bruises, despite the open-mouthed snoring, his only thought was about how beautiful Buck looked in the golden light—but sometime as they were passing by Joshua Tree he became so aware of all the thoughts he’d been repressing that he felt like he was going to vibrate out of his seat.
He’s sure now—that he’s not straight, that being gay is the main reason as to why all of his previous relationships came with an expiration date he willfully ignored, that it was so easy for complete strangers to pick up on a vibe between him and Buck because—
Or, Eddie pulls over right before they get home.

Summary
Maddie widens the door to let Eddie inside and motions him towards the couch. She goes to grab her glass of wine from the table and asks, “Do you want anything to drink? Water? Something stronger?”
Grimacing slightly, Eddie says, “No thanks, and sorry for interrupting your dinner.”
Maddie waves him off as she takes a seat next to him. “It went in the microwave once, it can go in the microwave again.” She sets her glass down on the coffee table and grabs a pillow to hold on her lap as a place to rest her folded-together hands. “So what’s Buck done to get your eyebrows stuck like that?”
Or, Eddie shows up on Maddie's doorstep after his dinner with Buck and Chris.

Summary
“I can just take a power nap on Buck’s couch. You slept there and you look rested enough.”
Hen gives him an unimpressed look. “And yet I’m going inside to kiss my wife and crawl right into our bed. You deserve to sleep in your bed.”
Eddie turns to look back out the windshield. “It’s not my bed I want to crawl into right now,” he mutters under his breath.
Or, Eddie drops Hen off on the way home from Buck's and finally says the quiet part out loud.

Summary
“I could have gotten a cake from the store, you know,” Hen says, taking a seat next to him on the bench.
“If you did that I wouldn’t have been able to show my appreciation,” Buck replies with a grin, making sure to show all of his teeth.
She shakes her head. “I would’ve hated to see what the cake would have looked like if he—you know what? Never mind.”
“No, no,” Buck says with a curious squint. “If he what?”
Or, Buck knows, okay? He knows.

Summary
It’s genuinely baffling to Eddie how long it took for him to realize that finding Buck beautiful had less to do with Buck’s actual appearance and more to do with his heart of gold—the way he loves loudly, how he’s been showing up for Chris since the minute he pulled up in front of his school with Eddie all those years ago, his strength in the face of waking nightmares—and the fact that he’s been hopelessly in love with Buck for years.
But he’s only known that for a few months, so he’s cutting himself some slack.
Or, Buck finds Eddie on the roof when he gets back from seeing Theo off with Deidra.

Summary
“Why’d you go for the elevator?”
If Buck had asked him that while he was still laid up in a hospital bed, he probably would’ve shrugged and said, “That’s what my gut was telling me to do,” and turned it into a joke about, well, literally being stabbed in the gut.
But no, Buck asked Eddie moments after he’d had the abrupt realization that Buck is Christopher’s other dad, a thought he figured he could put right away and think about some other time—like sometime when he wasn’t looking Buck right in the face.
Or, Eddie comes over to help with Theo and comes to a few conclusions.
