Pretending to be Luz was easy where no one knew her. But her mother? Her mother was sitting across from Vee and Vee felt trapped.
Not because she was doing it wrong. She could play the part well enough, provided she was paying attention. No, Vee felt trapped because Luz’s mother was sitting across from her and was being so incredibly kind to her, kind in a way no one ever had before, and Vee was stealing that kindness from Luz. Vee hadn’t done anything to deserve it. She was a literal monster.

Summary
In the aftermath of the events at the Historical Society, Camila and Vee must come to terms with living with each other with Vee as her true self. Camila said Vee could stay, but she's convinced it's conditional. Vee clearly needs help, but Camila is grappling with the fact that a stranger lived in her home as her daughter- and that that stranger is a child who has clearly been abused and has nowhere else to go.
