Summary
The outcomes of Mydei and Phainon’s daily competitions have gotten them nowhere in terms of declaring a decisive winner. That is why Stelle suggests the two women go a different route: compete in a drinking contest, where the winner will be able to command the loser as they please for an entire day.
Mydei, raised among Kremnoan warriors and highly confident in her ability to drink anyone under the table, accepts without hesitation. Phainon accepts for an entirely different reason. Unfortunately for both of them, Phainon’s idea of a day spent commanding Mydei has very little to do with victory, intending to make her feelings unmistakably clear to the princess.
Mydei, naturally, has no idea what Phainon is doing.

Summary
Phainon is so close to graduating he can practically taste it.
The only problem is that one of his required courses comes with an essay component, and he’s been assigned to research Castrum Kremnos, a once-prosperous kingdom in ancient Amphoreus that was nearly entirely lost to time. It’s just his luck that there are no useful sources online, and all he manages to find in person is a suspicious book containing an equally suspicious ritual to summon the god of Kremnos, the Titan of Strife, Nikador.
With nothing else to lose, and all the offerings on hand, Phainon performs the ritual. He’s bewildered when Nikador himself appears, bound to Phainon and insistent on occupying the sole bedroom, unable to leave until Phainon’s essay is complete.

I’m just multifaceted!”Phainon’s prison cell is small, damp, and thoroughly devoid of good company—until a very wealthy young noble in a deep red cloak steps into the dingy hallway, offering a trade. Freedom, a gold signet ring, and a stolen naval vessel called the Gorgon’s Breath, his for the taking. The only catch? Phainon has to get Mydeimos out of the city tonight.
Escaping the gallows is the easy part. Surviving a sea voyage with an imperious young lord who has no sea legs and didn’t realize he was hiring a pirate at all? Well, that might actually kill him.
