With Kronos gone, Percy declines the offer of godhood and has a moment alone with his dad. Poseidon should have known his son would say no - after all, so had Sally Jackson. A simple conversation about the past causes Percy to spiral a little bit as he sees his mom with new eyes. For so long Percy thought Sally was a faultless human being but that's not actually possible, is it?
OR: Poseidon tells Percy that he offered Sally immortality and a palace for herself and their son and that Sally rejected the offer. Percy has Thoughts & Feelings about this decision and the consequences of that decision, as well as just how much his mom knew about what was coming his way. He has a tough time with it.

Nico spoke up, breaking Percy from his thoughts. “My father told me something.”
“Oh?”
“It’s a fucking foot in the door,” Nico said, repeating back the very words Percy had told Hades. Percy’s mouth twisted into a grimace.
The thing was….Percy had already had a foot in the door. Percy already had created a system so Greek demi-gods could attend college. He had not only came up with the idea but had pensioned it in front of Olympian council. He had then funded it. A lot of the money he earned from Percy Jackson and The Olympians had gone to scholarships because he never wanted a kid to ever have to take on quests to attend college.
“I already had a foot in the door.”
Nico’s glare would have made another person shut up. Percy wasn’t another person though. He was himself. When he had been twelve years old, he had mailed Medusa’s decapitated head to Olympus. Annabeth had warned him the gods would see him as impertinent. Percy hadn’t cared. Medusa’s words had been on the forefront of his mind: do not be a pawn of the Olympians, my dear.
It had been years. He could still remember those words.
