There was a discussion of whether or not Beth would have cuts or scars from when the jar of green pills broke at Methuen. This tiny moment is my take on it.
This story is also an exercise in projective fiction, like a fanfic Rorschach test. It isn't tagged with any specific pairing because I wanted readers to be able to see how the scene works for their favorite ship. It works a bit better for some characters than others and it could even be an OC. And I do think Beth is bi so she might have a female lover and it would still work. Feel free to change details or pronouns in your imagination and see what works best for you.

After Beth beats Borgov in Russian the USCF wants to send her on a press tour. Upon reflection Beth realizes all of that sitting still and looking pretty with make her lose her newfound tenuous love for the game. Moving into Luchenko and his wife's spare room, she elects to stay in Russian for another three months.
She might have forgotten to tell her friends back in America.
But here she really thinks she can turn this infatuation into a fully fledged love. All she has to do is keep playing.
