In New York, Mordecai Heller is approached by friends of his mother to locate relatives caught up in the conflict.

Summary
Humanity is gone. In their shadow remain the hybrids, mammals spliced with mankind's DNA and left to inherit their ashes. With no point of reference but their precursors, they've taken on the same violence and vices that led to man's ruin.
Some hybrids refuse to let that be their race's fate. Algernon is one such creature, working under the agents of law who seek to purify the land of its corrupt. He has lived his whole life searching for a precursor artifact said to bring the world peace with one key turn, and when the crew he's part of finally find it Al hopes that all of the effort he's put into the endeavor will have been worth it.
