Mrs Gaunt’s lofty brow raises. She lifts her head, stretches out that long, aged neck, and her black pebble eyes bore into the three of you in turn. The air boils. Somewhere in the house, the dying house elf has broken a dish. A sharpened nail drums a staccato tap-tap-tap rhythm on the rim of her glass. You squirm, feel her stare tear you to shreds and pick clean the bones. Suspicion, knowing, even, sharpens her tongue.
“All together, in the one house? Ominis, don’t you find yourself a little old to still be playing at housemates?"
