Ciaphas' stay on Slawkenberg was a bit more... chaotic then it was in canon. Here, he discovered something that gave him an in with She Who Thirsts. He used it to, of course, save his skin (And by extension, the planet). Slaanesh likes this mortal. The result? A Daemon Prince.
Or: How Ciaphas Cain Accidentialied himself into Daemonhood while still being a loyal member of the Imperial Commissariat.

Summary
After a long and glorious career serving as a Commissar in His holy Astra Militarum, the widely celebrated Hero of the Imperium Ciaphas Cain was enjoying his retirement from service, spending his days spreading his hard-earned wisdom among the future Commissars in the Schola Progenium.
However, despite his own wishes to the contrary, Cain's service will once again be called upon - pulling both him and his faithful aide halfway across the galaxy to newer and ever-more daring adventures in yet another Throne-forsaken corner of His Imperium.
Regrettably, even his status as a respected and admired Hero is not enough to refuse the summons of a Rogue Trader outright. Our beloved Commissar must simply hope that this newest trip will be a short one...

Summary
Ciaphas Cain had thought himself rather clever for switching his first deployment as a Commissar from the originally intended Artillery Regiment to the Vacation Planet of Fracterus. He should have known that the universe would hardly let him have such an easy time.
The Emperor, after all, needed a way to bring His will back to that sector. And while His will may be dolled out with hammer and bolter via his Primarchs and his Angels of Death, that does not mean that the ordinary man has no place in his plans, they just had to be....tweaked.

The following transcript was recovered from a damaged Cogitator unit in the 12th Valhallan "Ice Falcons" logistics depot following the reclamation of Sector 4. It appears to be an automated, self-compiled daily log written by the individual known as "Guardsman Steve."How a Xenos construct managed to format its internal cognitive diagnostics into standard Departmento Munitorum report-gothic remains a mystery that I suspect is best blamed on severe logic-core corruption—or an utterly heroic amount of denial.
I have inserted footnotes where recovered military logs and subsequent investigation provide... shall we say, a necessary reality check. Readers wishing to compare this construct's delusional observations with Ciaphas’s own perspective should cross-reference his memoir excerpt, "The Case of Steve the Guardsman," though I advise taking his claims regarding his own composure with the usual pinch of salt.
