Summary
France had fallen into an authoritarian state. Protest is criminal, dissent is punished, and even gathering together carries risk. Through it all, Les Amis de l’ABC are the ones standing up to tyranny.
Enjolras is their figurehead, growing more militant by the day, while Grantaire is the cynic at his side, trying to help him stay grounded. The group has to navigate fear and interpersonal struggles while everything crumbles around them.

If she had just a drop more motivation in her body, Éponine would have been incensed by the finality with which Combeferre spoke; she was just so done with men telling her how the world works when they themselves have absolutely no clue. But he was a good person who meant nothing by it and, in hindsight, she could concede that he’d been nothing but nice to her all night and it wasn’t his fault that everything was pushing her — bit by bit — closer to the edge.
Yeah, it hadn’t been a great week.
Fuck it. It had been a shit year. The fact that it was only April be damned, she thought to herself as she collapsed back into the sofa with a resigned sigh.
