He knew, from that sad, sad look on Magda’s face, that they were his. He only asked, because he knew he had no right to demand that from her, after everything he’d done. He could only hope that his succinct words, that they all understood were really a plea, were enough.
It was Magda that had allowed him, but it was Erik who had to face them.
He rounded the corner slowly, watching them for a moment in a dreamy reverie as they sat dragging crayons, gripped tight in their little fists, haphazardly over sheets of paper. They were young, so young. They couldn't be older than six.
Too young to have powers.
It had been Hank who informed them of the energy spike. It had been Charles who had asked him to come along. It had been Magda who answered the door.
But it was Erik who had to face two children he had never known.

Summary
Peter squeezed one eye shut, hoping it might somehow relieve the ache. No effect. He tried the other eye. Nothing changed. He tried both at once, shutting his eyes tightly closed and hoping that the darkness might provide some relief. Nothing. He sighed and opened his eyes.
Doing so made him feel like all the blood was being drained out of his body. Yet, it wasn't the headache causing this problem.
Or, Peter hits his head and is pretty sure he's just fine. Evidence would suggest otherwise. After all, people who are just fine usually don't see their dead sibling wandering around like nothing ever happened.

Peter was completely fine. Seriously. So what that Erik hadn’t stayed after telling him the thing? That wasn’t a problem. Who needs a dad anyway?
And what of all the pain and grief he carried round with him? Well that wasn’t a problem either. It was stuffed down far away and no-one need ever know.
Because there’d be no reason for him to ever let any of that out, right?
No reason, except a ghost from the past calling out his name.
