Summary
Perhaps, it’s a habit at this point—a chemical addiction. He needs to be reminded of his mortality. He needs to think he’s normal, even just for the last few moments, before everything fades to black, and he’s out for an hour or so. He just needs to feel like he can die. But mold is simply the product of fungi. And fungus is a decomposer. He is living only by the death of his own body.
And if his own feigned death makes him feel alive, then he has not truly felt alive in three months.
