It has been six years since Hiccup Haddock disappeared in the dead of night, not a hair or footprint left behind.
It has been five years since the dragon raids stopped, and whispers started reaching Berk's shores of a Master of Dragons, maybe demon or human or something else entirely, who killed the wicked Queen which lived in Helheim's gate and ushered in this strange new era of peace.
It has been one day since Stoick the Vast was told by Trader Johann that his son is still alive, somewhere out in the Archipelago.
It had been less than a minute since Stoick woke up on the floor of the Mead Hall alongside the rest of Berk, weapons missing, torches burning.
The doors won't open.
Something is telling Stoick he's not going to enjoy what happens next.

Summary
It's been almost ten years since Berks' heir, the runt of their litter, the pride of dragon training, disappeared. Now, Drago Bludvist, a dangerous madman who can't be reasoned with, was coming to Berk. In a desperate attempt to save his people, Stoick took a mad gamble- he reached out to the Dragon Master.
Hiccup had hoped to leave Berk in the past and keep it there. Unfortunately for him, during war, a chief has to make difficult decisions, especially to protect his people.

Camicazi might not have been the best person to read someone’s behavior, but she noticed how Hiccup’s body stiffened.

As if -he-, who had run away from Berk, had any kind of moral ground to comment on her behavior as an heir.
- Stoick is pretty desperate.
He turned to her, a confused look stamped on his face.
- My father desperate? Stoick?
- Yes. Stoick. Berk is in Drago’s sights.---
Hiccup never wanted the chieftainship and always had a thirst for knowledge. Toothless gave him wings to achieve everything he had always wanted. When he fled Berk, he never imagined he would end up involved in a war of hunters, and that this war would bring him back to Berk more than five years later.
Not as Hiccup, but as the living legend of the Dragon Master, the one responsible for putting an end to the attacks on the islands of the archipelago.

Summary
Alastor, as the truly altruistic being that he was, had helped avert the crisis for a small fee. Two deals broken, a fully healed staff, and the electrical thorn in his side removed for the price of bettering his standing in the princess's eyes and appearing to have somewhat of a heart.
He could have gone without the latter.
With that little stunt of his, the power-hungry demon lord had freed himself from years-long shackles. Riding out that high, he had no qualms about getting his hands just a tad bit more dirty, especially if the opportunity arose in the form of a pathetic King. And who was he to decline such a thing?
So when he saw the imbecile of a so-called Ruler crawl out of the rubble, lose his footing, and soon disappear with a snap of his fingers, wounded and alone, Alastor knew this was a chance unlike any other.
Or
Lucifer needs and Executioner and Alastor is insane enough to try his luck.
