“I forgot about the reunion today, so I just came back from work. I honestly kind of just planned on going home, but I came because I thought Mona would be here…” You allow your voice to gradually trail away as you think about Mona, who is probably dejectedly walking home by now.
Kunikuzushi hums as a waiter sets down his bottle of sake and cup before him, “I can understand that feeling,” he confesses as he begins to pour himself a cup, “I myself came for a similar reason.”
You snicker at his words, surveying him as he downs a shot of sake, “You missed a few people?” His gaze on you lingers a second too long, and for a moment, you could’ve sworn you saw a flash of something akin to longing in his eyes. That emotion is quickly hidden, however, by a snide smile of his as he leans forward, his eyes narrowing sharply.

Summary

Yet here is that all casually brought to the ground in front of him; ghosts and all, and this isn't any Horo Horo fruit power, not even close.
The seas are just too wide for the impossible, and Shanks thinks that maybe he's never really known the impossible anyway.
Luffy bursts into laughter at him, and Shanks is absolutely livid. Truly, Shanks's ego has suffered too much since meeting Luffy, and it's all a dead man's fault.
(or: in which Luffy sees ghosts, and things are the mostly the same, but not really)

But Luffy's eyes widen till they fill up with stars and reflect the color of gold, and he laughs and says, "It really must be precious, huh?""...Yeah," says Shanks, and it surprises him how soft his own voice goes. Or maybe it's really not surprising at all.
And out of nowhere, drunk-ass Yasopp grabs him by the shoulder, saying, "Oi, oi, the fuck, Captain?" and Shanks has the sudden urge to shake him and say do not curse in front of the literal child, what the fuck.
Makino rushes to cover Luffy's ears, but from the unchanging expression on Luffy's face, it's pretty obvious that this is in no way new territory; his lunatic grandpa is probably to thank for that.
"You tell a random little kid way out here in the middle of fuck nowhere East Blue about your hat but not us?"
Roux aggressively bites into another meat-covered bone sounding somewhat miffed, and even Benn glares at him with an are-you-serious look.

“He must be strong,” Newgate said, voice raised above the noise.
Ace’s eyes found him quickly, as they always did, and Newgate’s heart warmed.
“He is,” Ace said finally. “He’s going to be the King of the Pirates someday.”
That sent all of his children into a fit again, yelling and fighting like brats. “Oh?” Marco asked, grinning at Ace. The others quieted to listen, if only a bit. “What about Pops, yoi?”
Ace blinked at him before turning back to Newgate. “Eh? Did Pops want to be the Pirate King?”
And here Newgate couldn’t help but laugh again. He laughed so hard that it ached, and perhaps Marco and his daughters would be upset with him for it, but that was a problem for later.

I do realise. He doesn't know about my geas, he doesn't know that every time he's glamoured me to forget, I still remember.

I drew back slightly. I try to make sense of it. “It kind of sounds like you’re in love with me.”
“Yes – I am.”
My heart sinks. I shake my head. “No, you aren’t.”
But Cardan isn’t listening to me anymore. He lets out a very deep breath. “Good grief! It’s nice to finally admit that. Even if you’ll forget by the next time I see you.”
“You’re lying,” I insist.
“Of course I’m not,” Cardan says. He stands up. His tail is moving for the first time that evening, the end of it twitching like a playing cat.

Some mix of a snort and a bark of laughter escape his throat and he squeezes you tighter, his fingertips digging into your soft flesh firm enough to leave marks. “Heh, I think I let’cha get away with way too much. Ya got me wrapped around your fingers….” He punctuates his words by letting one hand loose from you to move up and wrap a strand of your hair around his ring finger, he tugs it almost painfully as if testing you, and when all you do is pout at him he chuckles and leans closer. “But I kinda like it like that. Yer better take responsibility fer what you’ve done to me.”
“Yes, yes,” you murmur in response, letting yourself lean up towards his kiss. “I’ll let you torture me mercilessly for life.”
