Grantaire looks up arching an eyebrow inquisitively.

"Dude what are you-"
"We can run away and trick someone and you can marry me, I can pretend to be a girl, and then once we're married we can come back and be kings together."
Grantaire snorts. "That sounds feasible."*
Enjolras is heir to the throne, Grantaire has been his best friend for all his life, and at some point they became something more. Not just lovers, but actual family, when the family Enjolras actually has tries his best to break him down.

Basically a very self-indulgent fic about how hard it would be for Ilya to actually move on from the pain of the past and to go no contact with his family in a timeline where Grigori is still alive. Also, Ilya deserves to be known and loved by more people than just Shane and Sveta. Forced/Found Family here we come.

Enjolras presses his lips together. He already looks pained, and Grantaire hasn't even opened his mouth yet. That's got to be a record, even for them.
"I need a favor," he says at last.
"With what?" says Grantaire. "Ooh, are you forming a cult? Can I join? I'd be awesome at cults, I just know it." He ticks off his qualifications on his fingers. "I love chanting, I look great in robes—"
(High school AU. Grantaire the disaffected stoner is pulled into a cause bigger than himself. Or: in which there are pretend boyfriends for great justice.)
