“We’re family friends,” Izuku says finally. It’s technically not a lie, but also couldn’t be farther from the truth.

This was so far from the conversation Hisashi thought he was going to have that his brain whited out for a moment, and later he would blame that, on top of the late hour, for the next words he blurted into the phone:
“Izuku,” he said, “I know that.”
If Midoriya Hisashi knows one thing, it is that being a person is a strange and unique experience. Which is to say that, sometimes, you get a 3 a.m. phone call from you kinda-biological-son-emotional-nephew thing while he is crying and having a sexuality crises, which is weird, because Hisashi thought he already had that years ago.
