“I OUTTED US TO EVERYONE ILYA!” Shane thought his heart might beat out of his chest.
“Oh.” Ilya set down his fork, disappointed. “So you do remember.”----
Shane wakes up, hungover, after an eventful night out where he enthusiastically outted his and Ilya’s relationship to his friends. Unsuprisingly, his friends seem far more excited about this development than he is.

“Oh, just that Ilya and I have been fucking for, like, a decade.” Shane said, nonplussed.
JJ’s jaw dropped. Hayden let out a weird, choking sound. Troy started laughing, but it also sounded like he was crying. Wyatt and Cliff looked at each other, huge smiles taking over their faces.
“He’s who I had sex with this morning,” Shane continued, oblivious to the table’s reactions. “Twice.” He added cheerfully.

It was supposed to be a casual night out with friends - until, JJ and Hayden show up, with Shane (his secret boyfriend).
Shane is panicking, of course, so Ilya pours him some vodka, as an emergency option. This turns out to be a mistake. Lips get loose, and secrets are revealed.

Summary
In my opinion, there was a lot left unexplored following the Fan Mail outing. An 11-year private relationship was just publicly outed, putting everything into question for Shane and Ilya. This is an exploration into Shane's POV immediately following his leaving the arena where he was treated horribly by both his coach and teammates and was told he and Ilya had been benched at the command of the commissioner.

"For the first time all day, fear didn’t lead the emotion. It was still there, still humming underneath everything, but something else cut through it sharper.
Outrage.
How dare they.
How dare they take eleven years of something real and reduce it to something they could flinch at. How dare they look at the man Shane had chosen, the man he intended to marry, and treat him like a mistake. Like something to be hidden. Like something dirty.
His vision blurred before he even realized what was happening.
He blinked hard, but it didn’t stop it. The tears came anyway, sudden and frustrating, like his body was betraying him by refusing to stay contained the way he needed it to.
“Fuck,” he whispered, the word breaking halfway through.
Then his phone rang again.
