A modern, urban fantasy for our Ben and Rey. Heavily based on Jane Eyre, because that is my jam!
Rey lucked into a nanny job caring for the daughter of the enigmatic oil millionaire and ocean conservationist, Ben Solo. She's not surprised to find he's an absentee dad, but she is surprised when he returns and they strike up an unlikely friendship. It's almost enough to distract her from other strange things, like how his secretary is always sick on the full moon, and the sweet housekeeper Rose sometimes smells like blood. The elite mansion in Kingstree Island, South Carolina is deeply weird. And why do the seals always go mad when Mr. Solo goes to the beach?I wrote this purely as a Jane Eyre retelling a long time ago and was never really happy with how it turned out. Reading it again, I'm actually having a blast fixing it up! P.S. This is a fairly soft Ben Solo; he's got some trauma, but he's been dealing with it and is (at least somewhat) ready for a healthier relationship. Enjoy!
