Summary
What if Neteyam was alive for the events of Fire and Ash?
A rewrite of Fire and Ash to include Neteyam and see what would change if he had survived. Focusing on his struggles with PTSD, his strained relationship with Lo'ak, and his need to fight for his family.
Obviously, MAJOR FIRE AND ASH SPOILERS, literally the whole plot!
Rewriting this from memory after seeing the movie twice in cinemas, however, I have definitely forgotten things and likely will have to edit/rewrite in the future.

“Lo’ak slow down.”
Neteyam’s voice comes from behind him, already tired.“I am slow,” Lo’ak lies, darting between roots anyway. He laughs when his foot catches and he nearly eats dirt.
Neteyam grabs his arm before he can fall. Reflexive. Sure.
“Eywa,” Neteyam mutters. “You’re gonna break your neck one day.”
Lo’ak beams up at him. “You always catch me.”

"If you had just followed orders, your brother would still be alive."
That's what his father had said. Or I guess that's what he wanted to say, even if it didn't quite come out that way.
That seemed to be his issue. Not following orders. Not submitting to authority, no matter who wields it. He tries to listen, to be the good, obedient soldier his father wants him to be. But he's not Neteyam. He wasn't born a soldier. He wasn't even born a real Na'vi. 5 fingers. Hair above his eyes. Kuru sprouting from the base of his skull and not the top. A freak. A loose cannon. Unable to bend to the requirements of his people. Of his family. And now here we are. Suffering, all because he couldn't stay put.

Neteyam watched her closely, a quiet smile playing on his lips.
“That sounds like you think no one would choose you.”“That’s because it’s true.”
“I’d wager there’s someone who sees it very differently,” he murmured, his voice low, the smile never leaving his lips. He stepped closer, his silhouette embraced by the sea of purple light. “Maybe even someone waiting for you to take the first step.”
Her stomach knotted at his words. The hope she had buried deep in the back of her mind flared to life—like a campfire fed with fresh wind and dry wood. She stamped it out fiercely in her imagination.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“Perhaps,” he conceded with a soft laugh, bowing theatrically beneath the supposed insult. “But maybe I’m right, too. You’ll never know if you never dare to take that first step.”
