    Summary

‘I want to live’, he thought on that train, inside the ghost story that is Abyss Train. ‘I want to live. I don’t want to die.’

‘Do you mean that?’ A voice whispers, almost incoherent, but with a strange gravity that made you hear it all the same.

‘Yes’, Saheon said. ‘I’ll do anything. I just want to live’.

    He should’ve just died there.

(OR: he accepts a deal in the name of survival. That decision haunts him for the rest of his life.)

It was the Bureau agent from the Mermaid Darkness!

Oh, how Saheon wished he could light him on fire with the power of his glare alone. "Is this what our tax money goes towards? Paying government employees to be perverts on the train?"

"But you don't pay taxes?" the man pointed out with a light smile.

Despite their mutual distaste for each other, Baek Saheon and Choi strike a business deal. It's a simple arrangement: Choi receives intel, and Baek Saheon receives side-gig content.*

    *Baek Saheon's side-gig is OnlyFans.

    Summary

He hates it. He hates being stuck in the village, hates needing to come back, hates the way he’s trapped.

Baek Saheon thinks about what he will do if he’s ever picked. He has made thousands of plans over the years, but in the end it would always have looked something like this.

“Why are you alone?” He asks, setting down the alcohol.

The agent smiles at him. It’s a sleazy one, a look that doesn’t match the misery on his face or the bags underneath his eyes.

“What, civilian, are you worried now?” He jests, taking a jab at Baek Saheon.

Or: In Jisan village, Baek Saheon makes a depressed Bureau Agent draw the lottery stick.

It's a different Bureau Agent, one whose name is not Kim Soleum.

    Summary

“Who do you think you are?” Baek Saheon hisses, his hands gripping Agent Choi’s collar tightly. It doesn’t hurt, not at all, except that it does because his hands are so very close to his neck and the scarred tissue and even so, even so, Agent Choi does not push Baek Saheon off.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” Baek Saheon repeats again, his angelic, innocent face marred with rage, leaning closer to Agent Choi’s. This close, Agent Choi can see the bright green of his right eye, his left covered by that black eyepatch with the symbol of a snake which he favoured so very much. “To die on me, after everything I’ve spent on you?”

    Agent Choi smiles.

“I’m just a poor Bureau Agent.” He says, a grin on his face that doesn’t match the atmosphere, doesn’t match the room covered in blood and gore and the body laying not even two feet away from them.

“No.” Baek Saheon says, near obsessively. “No, I saved you, so you’re not allowed to die.”

Or: Baek Saheon falls for the sunk cost fallacy. Oldest trick in the book, as they say. (Agent Choi does too, but is that truly relevant?)
