Summary
Crowley’s life is fine. It’s good, even. He’s got a couple of friends (two, really), a job he likes (in an office he can’t stand), and enough acquaintances to be getting on with (his plants count, right? Surely the plants should count). So what if he goes without talking to anybody on the weekend sometimes? So what if he has to take long drives to cool off after work meetings once or twice a week?
So what if one of those long drives gets him stuck out in a storm, and the quaint little bed and breakfast he stays at overnight feels more like home than anywhere he’s been in years? And so what if spending time with the man who owns it makes his (fine and good!) life in London seem lonely and colorless by comparison? Surely that’s not enough to upend his life about. Surely Aziraphale has too much to do to entertain Crowley’s silly little midlife crisis.

Summary
Crowley found the other half of his soul a long time ago, in the castles of his childhood and on the battlefields of his youth. He’s the strategist to Aziraphale’s general, the bard to his listening ear, the messenger to his ruler. They are two parts of a whole, but as much of an open secret as that is, he has to be content with what they have. Crowley can be the prince’s lover and companion, but he can never be his consort. That role must stay unfilled, in case a political match has to be made to keep their lands safe.
But the principality has been at peace for a long time, and Prince Aziraphale might have a surprise waiting for Crowley when he gets home.
