Jeremy died when Katherine fed him to Silas, he collapsed to the ground with his neck snapped and that was that. Until he woke up having seemingly travelled back in time.

Jeremy somehow time travels to the start of the show after dying one too many times. He decides that if the universe has given him a second go on the merry-go-round he was going to make it everyone else's problem, there's no way he would be letting himself be used as the group scapegoat this time.
