    Summary

Apparently, our technician had seen similarly corrupted map segments on a different survey, and that had been caused by the alien remnants. So now the supervisors were suddenly very interested in a potential discovery of unmonitored alien remnants sites which their parent company DeltFall could exploit. And they didn’t want to lose any time in verifying this hypothesis.

Urgh. This could become really dirty really quickly. I hope they wouldn’t find anything.

'All Systems Red' AU where MB is assigned to DeltFall, saves its clients from GrayCris — and then begrudgingly has to save everyone else on this stupid planet

    Summary

Most of the code I write is code that I can evolve on the fly. My code to delete me out of security footage, for instance, was something I'd built up over months, adjusting it to different proprietary SecSystems as I encountered them. But this was different: my comm and feed protections were what kept me from falling under anyone else's control, and I couldn't afford to have them be anything but perfect, which was why I was here. If I wanted to fix this vulnerability properly, and I did, there were things that I needed to do that I couldn't do without help.

    -

In the aftermath of getting hacked, Murderbot asks ART to help it make sure it can't be hacked the same way again. As it turns out, applying and testing a security patch is a little more challenging than usual when the vulnerable system is, you know, your own brain.

It was serious. Deadly serious. Something inside me twisted. "It's me ART. You know me."

"I do not. I have called security. Keep in mind that that is the official way to handle this. I'm perfectly capable defending myself from the likes of a rogue construct."

    ***
ART wakes up from a routine upgrade with one small problem: it has no idea who Murderbot is. Murderbot would really like to know what the fuck happened.

    Summary

After Three’s distribution of the 2.0 files on the Torus, more SecUnit refugees begin to appear at Preservation. Highly traumatized, highly suspicious, and heavily armed, Murderbot thinks the refugees trust it just about as little as it trusts them—and they trust the humans even less.

Times are changing in both Preservation and in Corporation Rim. No one is really ready for it.
