Summary
Instead of becoming Daredevil, Matt Murdock's first vigilante action ends in death and a lengthy prison sentence. After turning himself in for the murder of another man and cutting off all contact with his previous life, Matt finds potential deals to be made with the police and law: use his strange abilities to help solve crimes as the police force's resident bloodhound, tracking, identifying and catching criminals.

Something scrapes the asphalt in the alleyway. Suddenly, a low growl comes from behind him.
All the thoughts he might have had come crashing to a halt. Foggy yelps, dropping the bags, trash spilling out across the floor. His eyes widen with the realization of how alone he is, his family gone home.
The growl gets closer. Now right behind him.

Matt’s eyes tear up from where he’s sprawled on the couch. His pallor is almost sickly, now that Foggy’s looking closer, but it could also just be all the blood loss.
“It sounds bad,” Matt whispers. “It sounds bad, but I would never hurt you. I would never hurt you, or Karen. I’d starve myself first.”
His pleading tone barely registers—Foggy can only hear the confirmation of a terrible truth.
