Carefully, he places two fingers under Rich’s chin and lifts so Rich is looking him in the eye. The eye contact barely counts for anything - Rich is completely guarded. It’s like staring at asphalt and asking it to tell you why you’re alive.
Jake has his plan - lean down. Peck on the lips. Linger just long enough for Michael to consider it a real kiss. He won’t move, just press his lips against Rich’s until some type of warmth fills the room. Then he’ll pull away and return to his homework, simple as that. And Michael will have proof that he’s not a coward.
He leans down slowly, giving Rich as much time as he needs to pull away. He doesn’t. Jake takes a single breath to try to calm himself and presses a kiss against Rich's lips.
That's how Jake discovers, by complete accident, that the life he's been living is bland. Dull. Nothing compared to this burst of warmth and... flavor?

Oh my god this is so freaking good.
I was literally constantly blindsided by the twists (that probably shouldn't have surprised me as much as they did).
The writing in this is wonderful and I always love Tim in a villain/anti-hero type role.
This story will have a special little place in my heart.
