“Okay, Sammy, I think you’ve had enough now.” Dean tried to pull his hand away, but Sam protested and gripped his hand tightly, nails digging in, leaving deep crescents. “Sam, let go,” Dean grabbed hold of one of Sam’s wrists to pull off, but Sam didn’t budge. At all. Even when Dean tried with all his strength.
Dean started to realize his mistake.

Summary
Sam was getting frustrated with the case, thereby making Dean frustrated. Sam would scribble on the cheap motel notepad for hours into the night while looking at his laptop. Dean wasn’t planning on getting any good sleep anyway; the motel was especially sleazy this time around, but Sam clicking and scratching and chewing away made it damn near impossible. 3 nights of that torture went on until Dean was so sleep-deprived that he thought going to the bar during a case was a good idea. Anything to distract Sam, thereby distracting Dean. And preferably distract Dean from Sam. That would be a big plus too.
