Do you want to gain a power of a god? Well, obviously - strength, control, adoration... who wouldn't want to obtain them?
However, they are the attributes of only the strong ones. Gods.
The more 'normal' you are, the more you wish to obtain them. You already have that 'boring' peace of mind and just want some decoration for yourself.But, the more you have, the greedier you are.
If you, rational human, want strenght, control and adoration, then what a god would desire the most? - Something that you don't cherish as much as you should: sanity.So, if an already strong, manipulative and adored human still wants to be even more alike to gods, then how insane the powerful god must be?
