Summary
Most of the code I write is code that I can evolve on the fly. My code to delete me out of security footage, for instance, was something I'd built up over months, adjusting it to different proprietary SecSystems as I encountered them. But this was different: my comm and feed protections were what kept me from falling under anyone else's control, and I couldn't afford to have them be anything but perfect, which was why I was here. If I wanted to fix this vulnerability properly, and I did, there were things that I needed to do that I couldn't do without help.

In the aftermath of getting hacked, Murderbot asks ART to help it make sure it can't be hacked the same way again. As it turns out, applying and testing a security patch is a little more challenging than usual when the vulnerable system is, you know, your own brain.

Summary
Did you take this from my head, I said. I was angry, really angry, now that I knew ART wasn’t compromised and was starting a fight for no damn reason.
Of course not, it snapped.
Where did you get it, then.
I found more fragmented data in unused buffers and am trying to piece it together to remember what happened to me. Oh. I took a breath.
Why are you reading my emotional outburst, I said. You already talked to my human about it and everything.
I’m not specifically reading your emotional outburst, it snapped. But it’s about me. It happened on me.---
Before everyone gets back to Preservation safely, ART and Murderbot have time to talk.

Summary
The most important relationships in ART's life are with the humans who raised it, and for whom it is now both home and friend. But ART lives almost entirely in the feed, where it is imperceptible to the humans unless it makes an active effort to be perceived. Struggling to be seen and understood, and to understand the humans who are its whole world, it turns to the thing it knows best: research.

Summary
When a Secunit lies to you about what it's storming off to do immediately after someone tries to assassinate you, there are only so many assumptions you can make. The only question that remains is how much you trust it.
